Why I own the SL (seasons first top down cruise)

Well, yesterday the weather was perfect, and I had the free time, so down went the top, and off to the beach to cruise. Ahh, nothing like it; the solid feel only a Benz has, the torque of the V8, the beauty of the woodwork in the sunlight, and, of course, the looks from pedestrians and fellow motorists. So for those where the weather is not yet cooperating, hang in there, there is indeed a payoff on the time, money and effort we invest in these babies coming soon!:D

I have been doing that for the past 2 weeks now. Got the sun tan I want.

txstinger 03-15-2004 06:43 PM

Man, I'm in dark overcast with mild rain over the last 3 days.
I worked in this bad weather just to feel the TORQUE of the sun this spring!:D

Around here I won't even get the hard top off till around May. 6 to 10 inches of snow expected tomorrow,,, This winter ain't never gonna end.

Clocks go forward soon and that's when my top comes off. Spring is in the air even here in the northern UK. It won't be long now before the top is folded down all the time...

I rarely take mine out in the rain anyhow, but I know the feeling. There's nothing like the boom of the V8 and the rush of air as you race down the highway with an attractive blonde in the passenger seat (I've known my blonde for the last 36 years, we're married, and she still looks attractive to me).

Getting warm...

Getting warm here. 18-20 C today, 21 (=70F) forecast in some nearby areas tomorrow. Need to get the summer wheels balanced, then follow the tradition (for my last time) of swapping wheels and taking off the hard top at teh same time. (OK, within an hour of each other, for the picky.)

Just when I think I am getting closer to pulling the E cabriolet and SL out of the garage for some fun driving, the damn wheather keeps setting me back. The temp today was 32 rainy and cold. Oh well, May will be here soon. Happy driving.

I just hate threads like these on a day like today when we got 12" of snow with more coming....hehe.

BobK 03-17-2004 07:00 AM

Yeah, we had a bunch of snow yesterday and more forecast thruout the week. Still, I hope to have the hardtop off on April 1!
For what it's worth, we have driven with the top down when it was in the thirties! (well, 39) Brrrrrrrr!

Ken, Rode bikes for about 35 years myself,,, both on and off road. Surgery to my upper spine took the fun out of that hobby, but you're right. The SL is the closest thing I've found to the thrill of a bike. Actually I think it's better,,, no helmet, my wife beside me and able to talk back and forth, and any tunes you want to listen to.

Yeah, we had snow again last night up here in the frozen north but just for fun I fired up my 380SL today just to hear the sound of the engine again. I had almost forgotten how lovely that baby purrs. I've had it stored in the garage since mid November. It started on the first crank! I'm hoping that by mid April it will be back on the road.

I am jealous. It's almost time to put the SL away for the summer. It gets hot and humid - 90/90 between May and September. Only early morning/late evening drives during that time. But it has been a wonderful winter - not one day below freezing and a gorgeous spring so far.

bowbyeal 03-18-2004 06:12 PM

You have it far too good!

spinedoc 03-19-2004 08:54 PM

I was able to put the top down for a couple of days, then this dang New England weather kicked in and we have fresh snow, ack.

Just got a new top installed and cannot wait to have it down!!
