"Chirping" Noise from wheel hub.

Has anybody experienced a bird-like chirping noise from the wheels during slow speed driving? It's not brake-related. I have new rotors, pads and bearings repacked all around. It is a rotation-related sound. It's a beautiful car that sounds like the wheels are about to fall off!

Heat shield?

I had a problem with a brake heat shield that covers the ABS Sensor breaking a weld and rubbing against the hub. Sounded like a chirping.

It bet thats what wrong with mine. I hit a killer pothole with the passenger side rear, and now I've got a chirp. Something bent makes sense.

Rear or front wheels??

I have the same on my R129. It's just the front wheels and worse on the left side. I've fixed this several times. It seems to appear every spring when I take the car out of the garage. ..

My problem has been what Steve is describing. The heat shield is bent in some way. A little agresivity, bending and hitting makes the problem go away. (This doesn't sound like Mercedes, does it!?)

It makes perfect sense. Mine happens when the car is stone cold. It chirps, then goes away. Thermal expansion on the shield, because it is so thin compared to the rest of the car, causes it to expand enough to move away from whatever it is rubbing against.

Chirp

Exactly as discribed herein only on every little bump. I leaned out the window and heard it clearly on the drivers side... I pulled the hood release at 5 mph going over the same bumps and NO CHIRP!! This happenes every spring and I spray the hinges and contact points and all is fine.
