Power Window Problem- Need to put up without key?
I have just ordered the parts to replace the ignition cylinder, but the windows were left down. Without the key I cannot put the windows up, and the interior is getting moldy, from being in a barn. Is there anyway to put the windows up, by jumping the system somehow, maybe going to the fuseblock? Any help would be greatly appreciated. And has anyone replaced the cylinder before? Have to remove the steering wheel, dash pod, and lower dash panel. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Three options:
1. Jump a '30' (always hot) circuit like fuse 12 or 14 to fuse 5. 2. Remove the relay and bypass the key on switching by jumping the C-30 to 87 (these numbers stamped on the relay). The problem here is locating the window relay. Book says code 10. That 10 is supposed to be stamped on the relay block. 3. Since you have to remove the old lock cylinder anyway, remove it now and turn the ignition switch with a screwdriver. I've removed the lock cylinder before, BUT I was always able to get the key to turn. To expose the hole for the cylinder release you need to have the switch in the ON or #1 position. Once there you insert a very stiff wire with the end clipped at a very sharp angle and press to release the cylinder retainer. One very ingenious person inserted the key and placed a jig saw against the cylinder to vibrate the pins and was able to get it to turn. This can all be done with the lock mechanisim in place, no need to remove any extra parts. In fact you can't get the stalk off of the steering column without the ignition in the 'ON' position. Might have to drill! |
