Wiper Parts
Need information on a new or used fiber gear for the wiper mechanism on my 1990 500SL. Gear is a half circle and is secured by 6 screws to housing. It is used for the wiper extending and retracting mechanism. Dealer says 3 to 4 weeks delivery but 3 to 4 weeks is the length of our summers in Northern Canada so I need ASAP. Thanks

Can I trouble you to describe the drive gear? The internal splines of the drive gear in the S420 sheared so the wiper doesn't extend as it should. I've tried the drive gear of a W210, W124 and W210 and none fit the W140. I didn't think to look at an R129 gear.
The fixed cog strip in my wiper mechanism looks okay. On a W140 it's held by 2 screws so I don't know if that's an alternative for you. If you decide you can use the wiper mechanism of a W210 or parts from it, I have a good one sitting in a box in the garage. Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

The wiper gear is made from a fiber material and is approx. 5.5" in diameter. The outside diameter is smooth and the inside diameter has the drive teeth. It is about 1/2 of a complete circle and is securerd to the housing with 6 screws into the side. It's frustrating when it's an obvious weak point and the replacement part can only be purchased as an assembly. To make matters worse the closest one is weeks away in Germany according to my dealer.

I'd like a description of the smaller gear that rides on the part you described. Is it nylon or metal? How many teeth?
Don't get me started on nylon gears in these cars. One of the nylon gears in the driver seat mechanism disintegrated and only comes as part of the assembly. Over $2000 for a new one, over $400 for a used one. And it's just a @#$%&! nylon gear. Thanks, Sixto 95 S420 87 300SDL |

The drive gear is a small metal gear 1" in diameter with 15 teeth and 1/2" deep. It is in good condition, the only damage is to the larger fiber gear.
