got a dead '83 300D Turbo; anyone want parts? (I need help, too)

Guys, I need some serious advice.

I bought this '83 300D from this guy who said it had oil pressure problems. I bought it and trailered it to my house. I cleaned out the ALDL circuit and it ran like a champ for about 2 hours. Then it stalled and now it won't turn over, at all.

I pulled the motor and tranny, now they're sitting behind the car. Tried taking the tranny off the motor, but you gotta rotate the flexplate in order to get at all the bolts for the torque converter. I took out the glow plugs and put a 3 foot breaker bar on the crank bolt and nothing happened. Is this typical? OR am I really hosed.

Anyway, I don't want the car- just the motor. Anyone want parts off of this? I need to try and make some money off of it so I can get rid of it.

I'll take pictures of it and post them up in a few hours, if anyone's interested. It's pretty solid. I'll ship almost anything.

One more thing to add:

I'll trade the whole thing, motor and all, for a running 240D engine with a manual tranny. LoL.

How good are the front fenders? You did make sure that you do not have a seized accessory like an alternator? I guess the bar would have slipped the belts if so. But if not? If you had normal oil pressure for those two hours I would be curious.

I could use some parts - my engine has a loose rod or broken crank banging about.

take off the oil pan and then take the rod bolts out and you should be able to turn the crank. the pistons are probably welded to the sleeves.

HoleShot,

I'm in Rhode Island. Just bought a 240D and I might (revised: will most certainly) need some parts. Maybe I could swing by this weekend or early next week? Don't quite know where Wallingford is but I can't be too far.

My camera went dead after those shots, so I'll get more of specific parts if anyone is interested.

The oil pressure gauge was messing up while driving it. I was a little concerned about it, but after reading some posts on this forum I thought it was normal. The needle on the gauge would peg while driving, and then it would go really far down (0-1?) while at idle and it would bounce up and down. The accessory belts are not on the engine, anymore. Thanks for the help!

Well I hope the pistons aren't welded to the sleeves! I'm going to pull off the crankcase cover later this week and pull off some of the crank bearing retainers and the connecting rod retainers to see if they're buggered up. I might as well take the whole engine apart and rebuild it, anyway... Thanks for the suggestion!

Let me know what you want to take a look at and I can take pictures of it for you guys so you don't have to spend the time driving! This weekend is poor timing as well as next because our club's 12th annual custom car and truck show is happening and I will be busy. Wallingford is about 1.75 hrs from Warwick, where my friend lives.

Guys, if you want parts, tell me what to take pictures of and I'll go take pictures.

Sorry I didn't answer your question about the fenders;

The fenders are in excellent shape.

Parts

I'm also in need of a few items...First the little yellow check valve that sits beside the brake booster, has 2 yellow line hooked to it that go thru the firewall and the other end go in line with the vacuum line going to the brake booster. May need a CCU, definitely need the console around the shift lever with ALL the switches intact...Might need more, but this is off tope of my head I have an 84 300D turbo...

The fuel filter on the motor I'm going to need to keep. I don't have a spare set of wheels, so I can't afford to get rid of those, either. It has to make it to the junkyard somehow! Sorry..

I need to add that anything on the engine I'm going to need to keep because I'm going to salvage the engine. I only bought the car for the motor.

As soon as I can get the auto tranny off of the motor, I will be selling that, too. The only things from the motor that I am willing to get rid of are the cruise control parts and pieces (if I can get them off, the two A/C line bracket bolts are pretty buggered up into the fuel filter bracket) and the A/C stuff. The compressor is already out of the car and ready to be boxed up.

I know which check valve you're talking about. I can grab that pretty easily. The center console switches and panel are already ready to be shipped. If you tell me how to get at the climate control unit, I can pull that off and ship it as well.

What is a hood start? And if I can find the jack in lug wrench in the car, they're yours!
