Have one to sell? W124 Haynes manuals nearly non-existant

I've been looking for a W124 Haynes manual for my 1991 300d. Those things are nearly non-existant. Pep Boys doesn't have them, Auto Zone, NAPA, Advanced Auto, and a few other places don't even carry them. They have the ones for the 1981-1985 series, but that's it. I FINALLY found a few on ebay just now, but they're from Australia, figured they might be written in a different English, plus I have to pay $15 shipping. Who carries them, or does anyone have one to sell?

Only available from Haynes UK. I ordered one from their website and it was about $40.00 CAD including shipping. There is no duty taxes on books to Canada, don't know about the US.

Consider a factory service manual available on CD or an alldata.diy.com subscription. The wiring diagrams of alldata are marginally better than the lousy scans in the factory manual CDs. The Haynes manual has only basic wiring diagrams. Nothing I'd call useful for diagnosis or even installing an aftermarket stereo.

US $$$ cost

Book is 18.99 British and shipping of 8.00 to US plus 1.49 for a protective cover---cost me a total of 28.48 British Sterling.

Mine converted to approx $53.63 and given the poor quality of many of the drawings and descriptions on the MB W124 CD's I am glad I ordered it. I do agree that the MB electrical schematics are good, but overall I have not been that impressed with the way the pages are laid out and indexed. I can't wait for my Haynes to arrive.

BTW the MB CD can be accessed on-line for the things you may not find in the Haynes. It is however pretty slow going to work through it online.

How about Technibooks

W124 1985-1995 Owners Workshop Manual? I've seen it for US$34.95 in the Performance Products Catalog.

There is another in same catalog called:
E-Class (W124) Owner's Bible 1986-1995

I was thinking getting about both of them.

How about a Bentley Manual?
Or a Chilton's to go with the Haynes?

Also, are the Bosch Fuel Injection books worth anything?

And why is the MBZ Repair CD priced at US$139.95 in the Performance Catalog?

Regards,
Jason

The Haynes manual is the single best and most reliable source of service information on the 124. The CD is OK but it's such a pain to get it running, keep it running and to navigate. The Haynes manual is available from the MB Club book store for $34.95 at 303-237-0911 or www.toadhallbook.com. I don't believe it was ever sold at retail stores in this country - MB Club may have some kind of an exlusive distribution arrangement.

Great link. They have some interesting books. They've got all the books on W124s worth owning. Thanks for the link.

Mercedes Bible's are CRAP!

If anyone wants my Mercedes Bible by Bentley publishers, send me some money. The book is for total crap. Total dog squeeze. It gives you nearly zero information on fixing ANYTHING. It tells you a little here and there, and has some half-hearted diagrams, but that's it. On a fan belt replacement, it showed a hole in the back of the fan and talked about using tool
number 023-32343or something, the number irrelevant to normal people. That episode cost me about 2 hours and messing up my wrist digging around in that tight spot for it. Come to find out, the diesel models don't have that hole, and no mention was made of that.

On other things, ditto. It gives you a picture here and there, but no real repair info.

Hanyes manuals are ok, but don't depend on them for anything. A good example is the Haynes manual for my motorcycle. I set about to replace the rubber brake hose(s). For insturctions, it said, that it was up to the ingenuity of the owner to figure out how to r&r the hoses but that removal of the gas tank(duh, I already had done that) would make it easier.

Thumbs up Haynes for 300TE

I have to disagree that the Haynes manual is crap. Mine just came in today from England and I am satisfied after going through it. It could be better, sure, but compared to the other information that I have found om my 300TE it is pretty decent. I wish I had known JBACH36 was willing to get rid of his, maybe I could have saved some time and money.

The book covers the 200,230, 250, 260, 280, 300 and 320. It covers a span of about 8 years. Of course it will be lacking some things and possibly focus more on one model than the other. These multi-model manuals are always more difficult to slice through than something with a single year and single model. It covers the 300TE and that is what I have been needing.

Verbal descriptions on the forum were of some help in understanding the self leveling rear suspension. This book clarified it for me. I have also been having problems figuring out how to expose my wiper motohar and mounting bracket. This book again has shown and described enough to get me where I need to be.

This is easier than the MB CD to navigate around in. If you can get past a few of the "different" British terms for components it is well worth the money in my opinion. No single resource will be perfect.
