WTB 107 Folding Top Case Cover Plastic Parts

Gentelmen

Does anyone have both left and right side plastic inserts that are located under the upholsterd pad on the folding top case cover for the 107. They are shown in the attached picture as item number 23.

The part #'s are 107-758-03-29 and 107-758-04-29. These parts are no longer available. I would prefer NOS but used without cracks are also fine.

I don't know where to get them, other than from a junk lid. There are completely intact ones around that are just rusted to junk. Did yours break? While you were assembling/disassembling it? This worries me because I plan to do this - I have replacement MB-TEX and I intend to paint.

In a similar vein, I've been seeing more and more of three dreaded letters recently in 107 posts: NLA. If I ever have any extra free cash around I hope to replace the brightwork on the lid on the back because some of it is scratched up. I hope it's still available - and if so, I'd better replace it soon.

NLA sometimes means "NLA for now". Benz just reintroduced the 190SL starter with a new and improved design. They constantly bring things back. -CTH

Thats exactly what I'm affraid of. The cover appeared OK but when I pulled it off the corrners that engage into the back metal band just crumbled. I dont belive I broke them, I think they were just sort of broken and bonded to the padding befor I took it appart. But to put the new paddding and covering back in place you really need these in tack because you need to pull it tight.

I kind of have the bad feeling that anyone I get from a junk yard is going to be the same way. And I doubt I will be able to find a junk yard that would sell these parts without the rest of the top unless like you say the top is rusted. I will certainly think twice about redoing my other car. If it's not ripped dont mess with it.

In any case I'm sure they can be repaired with fiberglass, but thats alot of work for 2 $12.00 parts. I think I will leave it for now until I am ready to paint the car and hopefully they will become available once again.

If you find any sources please let me know. I will want to order two sets.

Speaking of bright work. I just purchased the trunk handel for my 1988. It was about $45. I priced out the headlight rings, thinking they would only be about $10 or so each I was going to buy 8 for my two cars. But when I found out they were $59.00 each I decided to rethink that. How the hell is a trunk handel $45.00 and a headlight ring $59.00????

The best deal I've been able to find on US 107 headlight doors is about $90 a set, and they are not Bosch (but they look very, very similar - no one would ever notice this).

I found a company that has 3 more sets of 107-758-04-29 and 107-758-03-29 plastic lid corners. They were real hard to find. If you even think of recovering your lid, I would grab them and store them. $25 each, used but good condition.
Good Luck.
