Forum member "John Candy?"

Anyone else had dealings with forum member "John Candy" (aka Davey Pittman and "deeman" on benzworld) of Atlanta, GA? I paid for a replacement fender and rear parcel shelf back in May, and parts shipped were incorrect or damaged. I returned those parts about a month ago for replacement or refund, and now most of the phone numbers and/or email addresses I have for this fellow are invalid. I see he logged on a few days ago, and would like to think that he's good for refund or exchange of those parts still, but I would sure like to hear from him.

Until then, I guess it's "Buyer Beware" when dealing with "John Candy." Mr. Pittman, if you read this, please contact me. Hopefully this has just been an oversight on your part, and we can get things worked out. I will gladly post a follow-up to this thread when that happens.

Chris

Yeah, I saw that "outing" and was waiting to give him the benefit of the doubt. I was hoping to hear from him in short order and maybe get things sorted out. Looks like that might not happen, so I may as well pile it on over there, I guess, and keep this bumped to the top so no one else gets taken.

Thanks for the reply, by the way!

I have had dealing with this thief.

Read my blog at www. austrianautoparts(dot)blogspot(dot)com

Name is Davey Pittman. AKA John Candy - AKA Deeman.

This jack A@@ has many phone numbers and anonymous e-mails.

How many anonymous e-mail addresses does an honest person need?

I see John Candy logged in here last night, but not surprisingly, I suppose, did not reply to this thread or return any of my PMs. Watch out for Davey Pittman of Atlanta, folks. Wish I could have reported that a refund or my parts were on their way, but alas, no courtesy of a response.

"John Candy" appeared to have other usernames here and has been banned. I'd still love to hear from Mr. Pittman, if for no other reason than to confirm that he plans never to compensate me in any way. There are others who have contacted me, too, and we're onto a number of leads. I only lost $135 to this guy -- not a lot, but not a pittance given my budget -- but I am willing to go to lengths to see that justice is served. I'm not giving up by any stretch, nor are others who have contacted me. I suspect if Davey would make right on his wrongs, we'd just let things go; I know I would, anyway. I'd drop things altogether if he'd just send a simple refund.

Thanks for the bump!

Hey cscmc1:
How did you pay? I assume some type of credit or debit card was used.

Dispute the claim with your card issuer. If you used PayPal, they'll suspend your account but who cares? You can sign up for another PayPal acct on another CC and email address. Anyone with a free email address can sign up for PayPal (hence its inherent insecurities). But PayPal doesn't have a (legal) leg to stand on, and can not force collection on you without forcing reimbursement from the person who hosed you. They won't do either (10k+ in legal fees or a $200 transaction, guess which way they take out of it).

If only...

I paid via personal check, so no there's no chargeback route to pursue. That said, I can appeal to the post office to investigate the matter as mail fraud, as the payment was sent through the US Postal Service. We'll see how far that might get me. I urge others who may have been taken to pursue whatever means are at their disposal to recover their payments. Your advice is sound and a great option for anyone who paid with a credit card. A chargeback will get PayPal's attention, too, and they may limit his account, if he has one.

EDIT: I just reviewed my records (I have every last email Pittman and I exchanged) and found that he asked for a postal money order or wire transfer. If anyone else paid via the former, the Post Office will indeed investigate the transaction as mail fraud.

This type of scam is detrimental to all of us that frequent these forum's and depend upon each other for part's to keep these car's going....Everyone who read's this should pay extra attention when dealing with unknown part's seller's...Ask as many question's of them as necessary and inquire on the forum if anyone else has dealt with them before and if they were trustworthy....I feel really bad that you have ,so far, lost $135.00. It sound's like this individual is surfing the various forum's for prey....

For what it's worth, one of his email addresses appears to be valid -- I FINALLY got a reply promising a resolution. No excuses for the tardiness and lack of reply to this point, but to his credit, he DID finally reply. I'll maintain this thread and post concerning any resolution.
