wtb- wrenches for adj. valves

Anyone have a spare set of the shop style wrenches that they would like to part with? I"m assuming that these offset wrenches make the job easier and straight open end wrenches won't do the job. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I've got gobs of wrenches but not offsets.

im pretty sure dieselgiant.com will sell you a set. they are cheap wrenches, and not pretty, but they do the job. otherwise, you can always buy a set of straight ones and bend'em yourself...

bending them yourself will not work without grinding one of them thinner to fit the bottom nut. Thats why I use the MB wrench

true, Jack- i assume if you have the facility to heat up and bend your own, you also have a grinder .
that said, i know you can buy cheap-o taiwanese box-ends that are quite a bit thinner stock than your standard craftsman.

A purist will probably buy the MB wrenches anyway, right?

I just bought a pair of cheapo 14mm wrenches, and ground one of the open ends down to about 4mm. worked fine for me.

doesnt require too much to bend & grid regular wrenches - torch, vice, beltsander/grider, worked good for me. I had issues in that when i had the appropriately sized feeler gauge in there and i would tighten the nut up the clearance would become too tight - I found that putting the next size up feeler gauge in there and then tightening left the clearance where it needed to be - just something i found to be helpful

hmm, I found that if you hold the upper nut tight and adjust the lower one, there is no issue with the adjustments changing. YMMV...

I went to autozone and bought a couple strangely shaped wrenches...can't remember exactly what they were, but they were weird shaped. Anyway, grinded them down on the bench grinder, and had a set for about 12 bucks.

$50 bucks is, in my opinion, way too much to pay for a set of wrenches like this. You can make them easily, unless you don't have the tools. Its a better deal than buying and it'll take about 5 minutes, maybe 10.

The wrenches I got were shaped so close to what I needed I only had to grind the ends to fit the adjusting nut and lock nut sizes. Not bad! I probably got lucky finding wrenches shaped like that...

Good luck. Your engine will sound so much better when you're done.
