Exclamation Parting out '85 500SEL & '82 300SD

As the title denotes, I'm parting out a 1985 500SEL and a 1982 300SD.

The 500SEL has the engine in it, but a timing chain guide broke and then the engine went bad. One head has bent valves, the other is fine. I'm not sure if there is any piston damage or not. I bought it like this, as I could never let this happen to a car of my own. The car is actually in really good shape. Basically all of the interior is left. The exterior is in good condition with no rust that I know of, but the paint is oxidized on a majority of the car. The car is maroon with a white/greyish interior. I'm not positive, but if there is no piston damage (I'm not sure how common piston damage is in the aftermath of a timing chain guide failure) I can almost bet that the engine could run again. Before I bought this car I saw the previous owner driving it around town, so I KNOW for a fact this car was operational about 2 months before I bought it. This car can most likely be saved! I also have a spare flywheel for this car.

I bought this 500SEL because I was told the engine had another problem, and believed I could fix it as I've always wanted a 500SEL! To my dismay, I figured out the real problem a month after I bought it after removing the valve covers.

The 300SD does not have an engine installed, although, for a short time, I have an engine that came with another 300. If you're interested in any engine parts, let me know asap. As far as the turbo goes, I'm going to hold onto that for myself. I drove this car for a year then I got another 300sd and swapped the engine out of this one and into my newest one. The exterior is silver and the interior is dark blue. The interior is in rather good condition as is the exterior, with minor dings for the most part. The only problem with this car is that the underbody chassis has rust.

I am actually interested in selling both cars as whole parts cars if anyone is interested. Of course, the car will have to be towed to your location. If anyone is interested in a car as a whole, let me know through a p.m. and we may be able to work out a price. I'd LOVE to see the 500 go to someone who plans to fix it up, but I will sell it to anyone if the price is right!

I'm going to work on posting pictures for those who might be interested in buying a parts car as a whole.

If there are any questions, post up. And if anyone wants a part, post up or send me a p.m. or both, and I'll p.m. you a price. I want to try and give members here on the forum dibs on things before I decide to start putting parts on Ebay!

I'm in southern Indiana.

Brazicano- I'll post pictures today sometime of the interior. As far as the wood trim goes, I don't think I have it. If I do, its broken, as it didn't come on the car where it was supposed to come. I do have most of the interior parts though, except for the wood.

Hit Man X - As far as the diff. goes, I don't really have the means to pull it right now. Even if I did, I'd honestly like to keep the car a rolling chassis because it is for sale here and I have dump trucks and other large trucks coming into and out of my driveways alot, therefore I really need to be able to have a means of moving it. Hope you can understand!

For the person interested in the center console wood, here are the two pics. As I said, the first one denotes the chips, the second pic, if you look horizontally, you will see the many hairline cracks in the plastic layer on top of the wood. If still interested, considering the part comes as is, and after I have told you about the hairline cracks, let me know though pm, and I'll definitely send you the price thereafter.

John, The passenger side door mirror from the 500 or the 300? The 300 mirror is broken and gone, but the actual motor that moves the mirror on the passenger side still works. But if you're looking for the literal mirror only on the 300, I'm sorry, but I don't have it. It looks as if they are interchangeable actually. If you know if they are, I have the 500 passenger side mirror and its in basically perfect condition. I posted a picture here.

Brazicano, I took a picture of the passenger side door panel. Its in real good condition. I have the arm rest to go with it. The drivers side does NOT have the wood around the door handle though. I have the armrest for it as well. The glove box door has no wood on it, but I have the wood for it. The majority of wood trim is broken in a lot of places and I'm sure there is better out there. The wood for the glove box is marbled looking (not sure of the name for it).

For Paul, interested in the seat back, I have posted pictures here for you to look at. If you are interested in the entire seat back, notice there is a tear in the bottom of it. The actual back of the seat with the net, though, is in perfect condition.

If anyone decides they want the parts for sure, send me a p.m. and I will send you a price.

Thanks,

- James

I'm going to attach pictures here of the entire cars in case anyone is interested in buying an entire car for parts.

The 500 has a great body and structure to it. All body panels are intact and in great condition. This car can be made roadworthy within a short amount of time if you're a mechanic that knows what he's doing! I wish I had the time and money to fix this up myself, which is the reason I bought it, but I recently got another 300sd and have decided to save my money and just sell the 500, as its a gas guzzler as well.

The 300 has rust underneath, and I probably wouldn't recommend turning it into a roadworthy car. Also, the drivers side fender is screwed up. Besides this, the body of the car is in decent condition with a few small dents here and there.

As of right now, I do NOT have the means to pull the tranny or the rear end of the 500. The tranny in the 300, I'm going to hold onto. Sorry, if you are interested in one of those, but its just too much trouble, also I have to be able to relocate the car as I have various traffic coming in and out. Also, if someone decides to buy the car locally, it needs to be able to move for him.

If anyone is interested, p.m. me.

Thanks,

- James

Does the SD have the grey interior? If so, if the door panels are in nice shape (no cracking/fading) I'll take all four.

Understand on the diff, if the car gets that far please let me know. It has to be an '85 500SEL due to ABS.

Thanks

There is a euro-500SEL in our u-pick yard here with the diff still in it. Don't know what year the car is....I've stripped many parts from it but I am going back for more tomorrow (brake booster....brake calipers....blower resistor.....and so on...) I could make an attempt at hacking the diff out of it if someone makes it worth my while. Its cold and muddy here. I'd hate to see it get crushed though. The bolt up pattern is that of a 300SD, earlier style. So I am guessing its an 82-84 or so?

Vincennes, IN is where the cars are. 2 hours south of Indianapolis, About 2 hours north of Louisville, KY. And I'm a 15 minute drive from south eastern side of Illinois.

They can be simply towed, or flatbedded, but they will roll and have tires and wheels, fyi.

Hit Man X, all four panels are in excellent shape. The front drivers side panel is missing the wood trim, but has the supporting wood that goes underneath the wood trim. All the others have wood trim though.

It is Saturday, I will go out and double check on the panels to make sure they're in as good of condition as I say they are (going off of memory right now) today. I will p.m. you with price and shipping info. I really would like to be paid by paypal. It just makes me feel better as far as security goes.

Sorry again about the diff. If the car does end up getting torn down sooner than later, I'll definitely let you know. The fact that its ~40 degrees out here everyday (at highest) makes it a pain. A cold pain, as its already a pain.

bodyart27 - The drivers front seat is in pretty bad condition. Its got pretty big chunks taken out of it. The passenger side is in great condition though, as is the backseat. Actually the backseat is in perfect condition from what I remember. Yes, they are gray.

If you want, I can take pics of the front seats and post them up. If you are at least interested in one of them, P.M. me and we'll figure stuff out.

Thanks,
- James
