FS: The BOX came .....headlights, oil filters, turn signals

Okay, guys, you are NOT even going to believe this story..........I kind of hinted to JimmyL last week (or the week before) that I had bought 2 boxes of "stuff". The consolidated box with all the contents arrived today. Looks like one headlight "frame" lost a little bit and one turn signal lost the "knob end".

Anyone want an oil filter or turn signal? The CLEAR headlight doors.......are NOT for sale ...............YET.

Well, just looked up that silver box........I guess the transmission filter for Coda is not for sale either.

Pics in a minute....

The BOX

The hole in the BOX

Okay, by now, you might have noticed that I have been using "BOX"......there
are some reasons. Judge by the following pics.

Is that enough of a teaser?

Do you want more?

Okay.......here you go....next layer:

breakage......oh, well....

The breakage was NOT from the pair of these:

Are those turn signals for the W126? I need a right one.

How much for the euro lights?

Euro lights? What are those? You mean those CLEAR solid light door things?

MAYBE the turn signal that broke was a "leftie", then I have a single, so can make you a good price.

PM sent.

Is it just me or is some of the story still missing. It has been a couple weeks since I first heard from daw that he had a package coming. Well, I've now seen the pics but I still know diddly about the story.
Where did this stuff come from? Ebay deal? Out of the country?

the story.....

Okay, so 2 weeks ago, I had some "spare" time while I was at the office and decided to go on an internet adventure. Just poking around going some places that I haven't been before. Not finding anything "Mercedes" related, I decided to try the old sturdy standby site known as Craigslist.

I found an ad which read something like:

Box of old car lights

My dad had a late 1970's Mercedes and we found this box of old car lights. Make offer, cash only, must pick up.

Then there was another ad that read something like this:

Box of old car stuff

Box of old Mercedes oil filters, brake drum, etc; don't need, make offer, cash only, must pick up.

Of course, they had no telephone number, so I emailed them and within 15 minutes had their number; called them. Dad had passed away; I was sorry for their loss; the old Mercedes car had sold several months ago and they had come across these things while cleaning out the garage.

They accepted my first offer and then I explained the one issue. I wasn't able to pick them up, so I asked if they would mail them if I gave them another $30. The box of oil filters had one brake drum and one caliper in it which I asked them to discard since most of the time we replace those in pairs. Plus the weight would make the box very heavy. They agreed but they didn't have a PayPal account, so to the Post Office I went to get a money order.

The box the stuff was shipped in...must be one of the boxes that "Dad" had the stuff in....very old box.

So, tonight, I'm going to say a toast to these folks and their Dad; may he rest in peace knowing that old stuff he didn't throw away will be used.

for sale

So, I have the following items for sale; make a resonable offer
  • one set of early w126 headlights for sale.
  • one Wagner light bulb, #5001.
  • one CIBIE light bulb (made in France), HCR E2 19 47 are things written on the back of it.
  • one Mercedes oil filter, 000 180 06 09, made in Austria, comes with rubber gasket and 3 copper crush washers\rings.
  • one Worldpart W27-361 oil filter, made in England, which appears to be the same size as the Mercedes oil filter.
  • one Knecht oil filter, AW 42, apparently for a Porche 911 (interesting, indeed)
  • one very good set of w126 turn signals
  • one very good left w126 turn signal, matching right one has the mounting shaft broken; I'm going to attempt to glue it with JB Weld
  • Six oil filters, E 196 HN, made in West Germany (this is very interesting). I'm hoping these fit Coda, my w126 300SDL, but I could be talked out of a couple of these.
I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the w126 Euro lights. You can ask, but they aren't for sale............yet.

A few more detailed pics.

I think the Austrian filter fits sixes and eights from 74-91.

I'm sure the Dad, may he rest in peace, would be glad to see his parts being used by other MB folks, all kidding with daw aside.

Jimmy --- wish you lived closer; you would have had fun with 0well and I at the junkyards on Saturday morning.

So, Jimmy, what w126 parts do you need to buy? Speaking of 0well, he drove a big w126 for the first time ---- he is sold; loves all the room in the car.
