Does anyone have a used CD changer? I can't believe what the dealers want for these! Or, does anyone know of an aftermarket unit that works with the 98-99 E Class controls?

Alpine makes an aftermarket unit that fits the 98, but the 99's have the fiber optics which require a different setup. I think it is now availalbe, but I'm not sure.

I believe crutchfield now has a fiberoptic converter. I'd give them a call and ask about it.

BUT, I paid like $650.00 for the Mercedes Changer and C class holder and have to say it is the best trunk changer i've used. I have never had this unit skip. Considering I have a C43 with 40 PSI in the rear tires, I'm very impressed. Everyother changer i've used would skip at least once in my dailt commute.

What is your dealer asking?

I've answered this question on the fiber optic changer before. Search for "CD changer" in tech help. You'd be very hard pressed to find a used one because they're so new. Even if you found one, it probably wouldn't cost much less than the $500 I paid including mounting hardware.
