I can't believe your car is totalled!!!
I feel so bad for your loss, that was abeautiful 400e. Are you on the lookout for a 500e replacement for it or something entirely different? I'd be interested in the swaybar for my 300CE, only problem is that I just can't pull it... 4 huge parking tickets gotta be paid. DOH! Alon

i got to see your pictures of your car, and im thankful that you didnt get any serious injuries. I saw in the pictures that maybe some things can be salvaged. Are you willing to salvage the euro lights? Or maybe the wheels? Thanks

Philip,
There are a bunch of items on the car that are in fine condition. I got a settlement from my insurance company for the totaled car, $16.8k. They said I can get some items off of the 400e as long as I have the original to replace them with. I was going to swap the rims, steering wheel, interior wood trim, and headlights with the ones on my 300e, but decided not to bother. The 400e is sitting in a yard about 1hr away from me. I don't feel like the drive or dealing with removing and installing the stuff. So everything on the 400e is going to stay on. On a new note, what do you guys think about a 1997+ Range Rover? Anyone have first hand experience on mechanical reliability and overall quality? -David |

Dave- did you get my present?
How about the caps & rotors for a XMAS/B-Day present? Regarding the Rover's. Before I decided to go "Mercedes" I seriously thought about the Rover Defender, Discovery, or Range Rover. After lurking on the Rover list for 6-months, and other internet research- NO WAY! Too many disappointing things: build quality, reliability, plus parts cost. How about a W124 turbodiesel, or the 1996, 1998, 1999 E320 turbodiesel? I think you'd be very impressed if you test drive one, and you'll be so smug at how little fuel it sips. I'd like to recommend the Mercedes 4-matic, but all the MB techs I know say the tranny's just don't last. Early ML320's had build quality problems as well. If you look hard, maybe you can find an early G-wagon 6-cylinder gas or diesel (there was one in SB, $13K). Take care, :-) neil PS: The wagon took 1st in "Ultimate Mercedes" and the 500E took 3rd in class (against REAL racecars) and 9th overall at the time-trials at Willow Springs. Hey Cuz,
Yes, thanks for the "present". Too bad there is no car to go along with it.... at least for now. I have been looking at some E420s along with the Range Rovers. Thanks for you input on the RR. The wife was not to crazy about the idea anyways. Didn't even think about you for the cap/rotors. Sure! Email me your address and I'll get them off to you. I'll throw in the coils too, good for troubleshooting/backup. Take care! -David |
