I just sold my '86 300E which had chrome 8 hole wheels on it, but I still have the original 15", 15-hole alloy wheels. However, before I sold it, I removed the spare which has never seen a rotation on the road. It is an original Uniroyal (Germany) tire and the wheel is absolutely pristine and is as shiny even on the inside as the day it was delivered to the dealership in 1986.
