6.9 engine/drivetrain into w126 body? Does this make sense
Is it even possible? (dry sump etc.... )
I have a rolling chassis W126 in excellent shape and do have access to a 1975 6.9 with 120k miles.... Tempted to drop that Euro 250+ hp in that car... Should I or not? Is this even pratical/possible? Thanks! |

6.9 in 126
Yes, go for it! I have a friend who loaded one into a 126 coupe. He hooked up the driveline and everything. Engine fit fine with a few minor adjustments. You may have to make some custom motor mounts. I haven't talked to him for awhile but I'll ask how its coming along today.

If you're in California, I don't know how you'll get this pass to SMOG . . .

I wouldn't think it would be too hard, but you'll have to find somewhere suitable to mount the oil tank for the dry sump system. The M-100 is a very tall engine, and of course weighs a ton. That front end should probably be uprated too. Have you ever seen the 350SLC that was converted to a 6.9 drivetrain? I think someone else also did a 6.3 too, but they had to put a bulge in the hood for it to fit. Looked pretty *****in'!

Abdul, Get a grip pal. To basterdize a mercedes product by putting a 6.9 in a 126 chassis, completely different balance, if you look at the specs the torque is extreme, with a 6.9. 1). You would experience oversteer. 2). How would you maintain it?. 3). Lastly, the 6.9 in a 116 chassis was balanced planned out and delivered without failure. If you want to make your 126 fast, think about what they thought about. The evolution of the 4 overhead cam v8 engine. Its easier and more balanced . Pay attention to the physics of Mercedes Benz. Good Luck .

Benzmac is right on. Keep the balance.
Since you have a W126 chassis car, you might want to check out what Satish did to his 560SEC-- he stuffed a M119 DOHC V8 ! Check it out at: http://www.mbcoupes.com/memberscars/T/satishtummala/page1.htm :-) neil 1988 360TE AMG 1993 500E |
