I'm out of town and need a starter...
Hey, I am visiting family in the Lexington, KY area and the starter went out on my 85 300SD. Was wondering if there was anybody around this area that had an extra to sell? Or could point me to a place where I could actually buy one? The major parts stores all have to order and its 3-5 days wait time. I'm leaving Friday so I don't know for sure if any of them will get one here in time. Been to AutoZone, O'Reilly, CarQuest, and Advanced. NAPA is closed on Sunday (?????). Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

I can't help you out directly, but if all else fails....Fastlane has both Federal and California in stock. Order Monday for overnight, and you have it Tuesday. There's a few other parts houses online that could do the same.
Also, you might check www.car-part.com for a used one. You might get lucky and find one close. Or...most of them ship also. Good luck!!

Thanks for the info. I'm kind of stuck....don't really have the money for the parts + overnight/2-day delivery. There are two wrecking yards here that I am going to check out tomorrow.

you may like to check starter for operation .Connect solenoid end (with cable & nut connection) to motor connection with a similar cable/nut connection .this will directly activate the starter . i have been able to do so with a screwdriver to bridge the connection.
Isolate any fault from the ignition switch or selector wire to the soleniod pin good luck
