WTB: Rear Drive Shaft

for 1981 300SD. Do not know what the MB part number is...

Any idea what a fair price is for a good used piece??

For clarity - do you mean an axle => between the wheel and differential

or

propshaft => running the length of the car (consists of two parts that should be matched to avoid out of balance induced vibration)

Propshaft

is what I mean... So the two portions need to be purchased together to be in balance??

And MAKE sure they have NOT been taken apart. That reminds me, I own a guy near Nashville a 300D driveshaft.

Take a look at this DIY - for a W126

It is all about the centre carrier bearing but it gives you an idea of what you'd need to do...

From what I understand, if you don't match the bits up the chances of a vibration free drive train are slim.

Why do you need a new rear bit?

One of my trusted mechanics is doing the job

Brought it in for a number of minor things, but asked him to check the flex disks while it was there. Turns out mount torn up by bent rear "propshaft". Don't know exactly when this happened, but I have lent the car out a few times (not since last century). Car has not been driving any differently since I put it back on the road around 4 yrs ago... Strange.

In better circumstances, I would attempt this myself, but I have been experiencing some serious back issues in the last few years which has slowed this type of activity down a lot...

Any other thoughts, Gentlemen?

Bent propshaft - hmmm - have you got any pictures?

Also I recommend getting this thread moved / start a new one in DD - you'll get more hits and experience there...

I have the fwd and aft drive/prop shaft from a '85 300TD, that was marked before separation. Dunno if it will work for you or not. Send me a pm.
