Doesn't matter to me

I can load it in either direction since I have a 20 foot trailer
http://memphis.craigslist.org/tls/2838475470.html://

Good idea about removing the rear bumper. What tools will I need for that?

Retrieval Complete --- is it restorable???

Folks, it was cold and windy today in the Memphis area. I had quite the time retrieving the wagon. My come a long jammed on me and I had to use two chains and 3 binders alternating back and forth to get the car loaded. And having lots of boards helped keep the wagon from dragging on the (ramp ^ trailer) hump.

I talked to NCfriend this afternoon about this 84 300TD as a possible "shell" donor for his Euro wagon. I think there is too much rust on it.

What do you all think? Please give me your honest opinion.

The spare tire is about to fall thru because that area has a big hole in it. Both the rear jackpoints are toast. There's one spot behind the driver's side jackpoint that is almost big enough for me to put my hand into. The driver's side rear door is decent --- no rust along the bottom; about 2 fingers of rust right at the corner. The passenger side rear door has rust all along the bottom edge. There's a hand size bubble on the outside, too. The front leading edge of the driver's side front fender has some rust. The hatch is pretty good --- a little spot of rust right at the windshield washer nozzle.

Here are the pics:

passenger side rear door:

Thanks for thinking of me. Looks like this cold wind could blow through that wagon too

If you find the wagon's collapsible hazard triangle behind the rearmost passenger panel, you got to give me a shot at it

Honestly, I think my donor wagon could serve as a donor shell to this one...still you have another goldmine in wagon parts to share! Nice looking rear carpet in dark blue!!
The fender trim along the back door and pass corner looks dent free (there is a hidden screw on that back corner). Looks like a spare hood star floating around...
Heck is that a Toyota fender laying inside too
This car came with everything

Okay....you have first dibs on the wagon triangle if there is one.

Actually, that is a Volvo front fender.

My first 240D was rusted in a very similar way. The rear jack points are
a boxed structure three layers deep, running full width of the car, and tied
into the C pillars.

This "box" takes the unit body bending load imposed by the hydraulic
lifting struts and spring packs, constantly trying to "pull down" the body
at the front subframe bolts and through the rocker structure.

I consider that amount of jack point rust to be "a kill". Its very likely that
you won't be able to remove the rear subframe, as the screws will just tear
the mounting nuts out of the rockers. I've had to "release" two of them,
in similar rusted condition, using a gas axe through the top of the rockers.

Its a complicated fix, even for the motivated. hth.

If you still have the SLS valve, I'll take it.

PM and email sent. Some pics to whet your appetite. The screws point to the slight imperfections? Obviously, I am going to have to go back to using my "junkyard digital camera" to take pics. These really are blue!!

Better remove the cargo cover hardware! And if you can remove the drivers side third row seat seatbelt for me that would be great...

I'm much less optimistic about the repairability of rust than I was two old Benzes ago . . .

Any idea if the brake booster is any good? I need one. May want the front blinker lens. Can't remember if I need left or right. I'll have to check.
