WTB: A/C Condenser for 1982 300SD

I'm not actually looking to buy one now, but I'm considering a 300SD with a cracked condenser and I'm curious to see what the replacement cost would be.

$30 or less at the junk yard. If you are replacing a condenser on a 82, you might as well get the upgraded version used on the 84 and 85 W126 cars. Grab the larger fan and mounting bracket. It should all bolt up pretty easily.

It's a worthwhile upgrade. At least in Texas.

1983 300SD - Tanoshii - mostly restored ~400K+.
1983 300SD - Good interior. Engine finally tamed ~250K.

Thanks for the advice -- I was afraid this would be a $100+ part.

As long as the supply and return freon connectors meet up close to each other in the front, yes, that will work. Some late models are different. Sell him the fan and bracket with the condenser or the system won't be as effective.

Jooseppi,

Use R12 and Mineral oil when you rebuild the A/C system. CL is a good way to find R12 freon. Get yourself a good manifold set of gauges and a thermometer. Replace every O-ring in the system and flush it if it has any of that PAG or Ester crap in it from an R134a conversion. Replace the TxV, compressor and drier while you have the system open. Vac the system down by renting a vac pump from AutoZone before refilling it.

Plenty of A/C rebuild threads on here. Take a look. PM me with questions if you want.

Edit: Also, be sure to test the system for leaks by injecting propane before finding out you have a leak and wasting your R12.
