5-Speed Manual Transmissions for OM617/OM616
I've got a line on some of these manual transmissions coming from the UK.
They're the 717.422 from the diesel G-Wagen models. These are the only transmission with overdrive that mates directly to the OM616 & OM617 motors without major conversion work. They'd be $800 each plus shipping. I can get at least four, possibly more. I'm guessing the total ocean freight will be in the ballpark of $500-$600. Then there's the ground freight costs from the ocean port. So, could be around $1100 by the time they'd arrive at your doorstep. Anyone interested?

Later Edit:
I misunderstood the original post, so my comment is no longer relevant. Sorry. Hi- Based on your numbers, it looks like the cost will be $1300-$1400, not the $1100 you mentioned. Still cheaper than others recently advertised here, but I just wanted to be sure everyone noticed knew what the actual cost would be.

Depends on how you look at it. I assume this is only the trans. So you'll need to source the flywheel and bolts, clutch, shifter, trans mount, and driveshaft. That can easily add $1000 to the price. On top of that, I believe the .422 uses a different prop/driveshaft mounting, so you'll need to source the flex disk flange.

I'd be tentatively interested in the full kit, clutch, flywheel, etc.

Is the driveshaft from the G-wagen going to be the right fit?

if not the forward section that mates with the gearbox would be useful to include in the kit, then the correct flange could be cut and welded to another driveshaft if there was going to be an issue on application.

http://4x4abc.com/Mercedes-Benz.G-Class.manuals/transmissions/getriebe.html As far as I know the 123 factory 5 speed was either an early style iron case/separate bell housing or the later style one piece alloy housing GETRAG that was designated 717.400 for 123 with mechanical speedometers and 717.402 for 126 cars with electronic speedometers. either of those transmissions will bolt up directly to any 61X family diesel engines and will also bolt up directly to any M110 gasoline engines as well. The M110 uses the lightest fly wheel the 617 uses the heaviest flywheel and the 615.616 use the in between weight flywheel/ I'm certain that the late style alloy case GETRAGs are 5th gear overdrive. As far as overall cost the 2.5% US Customs Duty on used auto parts and the sales tax of the state the import is landed in will also add to the costs unless there is some trickery involved! Not sure why those websites don't list the 422 as it does exist. I think it was the stock manual for the 300GD. Quote:

The 717.422 is a tranny used in 300GDs.
PointedThree - difference between a GL275 717.421 of 717.422

I just went back and did some further searching on the EPC, and found the 717.42X transmissions under the Major Assembly GM - Manual Transmissions for Cross-Country Vehicles, so if you're referencing pieces or parts that's where you'll find them.

There is a 717.4xx one to one offered in the G-wagon, but I don't remember the number. Plus, there is of course the 190e 16v dogleg close ratio 717.404 5 speed with the one to one 5th.
