Smile parts in Germany

Hello to all members of this outstanding forum,
although I am in Germany,I thought I could possibly contribute to the cause in the way of making hard to get parts more readily attainable.
I work for the DOD over here about 5 minutes from a mercedes dealership and about 30 minutes to the closest scrapyard.
If there is a part(s) that can be mailed via the U.S. Postal system
that is desired I will do my best to assist in obtaining it and forward it to your home address. For new parts a MB part number should be sufficient, and for used parts a clear description and veh model number etc....
feel free to drop me a line if I can help

regards ,
Keith

just wondering on availability

Hello,

Since you are already over there, I was wondering what the availability of parts is in the autofriedhof (junkyards). I was planning on going to Switz later this year with my wife and was thinking of trying to sneak off and try to collect some goodies.

Around here (in san francisco) there are a fair number of MBs on the roads, but not a lot in the junkyards. Obtaining parts for my 84 300TD from the local yards is not easy.

Does it seem like there are many mid 80s vintage cars in the recyclers there?

Keith,

Where are you located? I was in Frankfurt on Monday and Stuttgart on Tuesday. My colleague is going to try to get me some Euro headlights for my '88 124. He is not a car person so I don't know how much trouble he will have. I was in Hamburg a few years ago and found a set in a scrapyard for 180 Dmarks including the trim plate and level control to go near the light switch.

If my colleague is not successful, I may ask for your assistance.

Have a great day,

Keith,

First let me thank you on behalf of the many contributors here for your your generous offer.

One of the problems I face is just finding out the part number - maybe you can help in that department and suggest a contact over there to place an order with so they can mess around with the shipping. Our US dealers do not seem to have an easy method for getting me the Euro part numbers since these parts do not flow through their supply chain.

The two items on my current list are:

1. 1994 E500 LTD springs (both frnt and rear) for my 1994 E500 (Vin WDBEA36EXRB995264). If there are additional changes in the suspension I would like to know that too.
2. Oil cooler set up (all necessary parts) for the same car.

Anything you can do is a great help.

Thanks again,

Steve

Surfblau: es gibt genug davon das sie wahnsinn werden.

Larry, CJ & William: tommorrow I will check the price of complete headlight assemblies in the scrapyards within my area. will inform you all as soon as possible. If new are desired let me know.

Chris: Tommorrow I will check on the ABS unit also.

Steve: are the LTD springs factory equipment or special order for your make of vehicle. I'm a little vague on that and would like to know before approaching the dealer or scrapyard?

Guten Tag Keith,

The springs (and possible suspension bits I might need) and the oil cooler kit would most likely come from the dealer. These are MBZ parts and are probably in the inventory over there as Mercedes has supported these limited edition models very well with replacement and spare parts. Mine is a bsic E500 and I am trying to upgrade it to meet the Limited Edition Spec's. If the dealer can get you a part number I can probably scramble to find a way to purchase them through an importer. They only built 500 of these cars in 1994 so I doubt there is any chance of finding them in the salvage yard.

Thanks

Steve

Keith -

Terrific of you to make the offer to seek parts for folks! Thanks!

Would you be kind enough to keep an eye out for a horn tone switch for an 81-85 W123 - it mounts on the dash above the climate control, along with the sunroof swich, reading light switch, antenna, etc. It looks like any of those swiches, but with a horn-looking icon on it. May find same in an 80-85 W126.

Appreciate the help!

German Parts

Hi Chris, I have a 1985 300TDT wagon. I am looking for a cartop carrier that was available in Europe, these mount on the existing roof rack, they have two lockable compartments, they look somewhat square like haliburton suitcases aluminum, also they made a ski box that fits on the roof rack as well. I am looking for the above in excellent condition. I would be willing to pay you for your time if you come up with something. Thx
