WTB: Gen I 81-85 W126 (300SD) Climate Control Unit

I need a climate control unit from a Gen I W126 - not sure if they're different among diesels or gassers, but it's for a 300SD. Condition doesn't really matter, if it's missing a button or two that's okay too, as long as it's functional!

PM me a price SHIPPED to 60634. Paypal is ready.

Thanks all

First gen W126 cars should be compatible. 81-85 only. 86+ units are not compatible.

It should be noted that not all of the HVAC control resides in that one unit. The 81-85 SD has a three piece system.

What's wrong with yours thats making you seek out a replacement unit?

Blower works intermittently on defrost only. By intermittently, I mean, rarely. Blower motor was replaced with new a couples years back. Every button on the CCU "works" as I'm hearing vacuum pod engagement/disengagement throughout the system. But the blower itself is not functioning. Only will work on "HIGH" fan speed. Could also be blower resistor, but this CCU is really suspect to me.

There's a local here that may have the part, but I've yet to hear from him. We'll see. I'll try hitting the local pick and pulls and see what I can come up with.

EDIT: Seems these buggers have fan speed control relays. Where are these located?

Yep. The push button unit is very simple, just switches and relays. Often times they have issues with soldering and start to do weird things.

The system consists of the pbu, blower control relay, temperature regulator unit. The blower and temp units are located on the left and right side of the blower box. If you drop the passenger lower dash cover, you'll see them. Blower box is black, temp box is silver.

Anything after 86 is not compatible with the 81-85 cars.

Fantastic. Popped off the lower dash and saw everything there.

This morning, cold, the blower was working on all settings, but on HIGH and possibly "auto". Can't know for sure because the "auto" selector on the CCU doesn't do anything.

Hopefully going to be meeting with a local today around 6 and getting CCU from him. If not I'll be searching for a the temp/blower speed unit.

Thanks for the help.

It sounds like maybe you've got a cold solder joints and/or capacitor issue. If you would like I'd be happy to refresh all three components for you. I can even give them a test in my 82 300SD.

Let me know what you think.

Hey James,

Thanks for the help - I was actually checking out your site and now I know who to send my cruise amps to!

But she's all sorted out - Decided to delve deeper into the abyss I call my storage and found a CCU. Threw it in and she's working well again. All the blower speeds work instantly as do the different vent settings. Life is good.

When I have time I'm going to take apart this CCU and see what may be wrong with it. Found it rather interesting that it would change all the vents on command but not control the fan. May take some in depth pictures of my problem and post them in that DIY thread somewhere here.

Again, thanks for all the help.

She's sorted.

Excellent!

I would bet that you've got a cold solder joint on your "old" push button unit. Very common. I think I just had one in here with a similiar problem. One of the solder joints had a hole in it completely disconnecting the pin from the board.
