Thanks but I found a pair on Ebay today for $60 shipped. Mercedes W123 R107 W116 Head Rests Pair 2 Color Blue | eBay And does an '85 take two or three headrests for the rear seat? I've seen some with three and some with just two.

Read this Excellent thread by Chad300TDT
I'm the guy who sold the seat back and headrests Chad used for this thread.

Those headrest brackets run around $250 a set from Mercedes and you need three. Additionally, the headrest rods for wagon rear headrests are shorter than the ones used for the front seats. The 124 wagon rear headrests are the same as 123. The receivers or mounting hardware IS NOT the same.

S123 rear headrest Part Number:
123 970 03 00

Hmmm. I don't completely agree with mbz300cd.

When I was doing serious junkyarding I used to harvest headrests brackets (and headrests) from W123 second row seats. Here is what I observed:

1. Front seat and rear seat headrests have 2 differences:
a) Front headrests pivot, rear headrests don't
b) Latch stop at end of left rail on rear headrests is a wedge, and on front headrests is more of a ball (like what you have in your picture)
c) length of rail was the same and they could be interchanged.

2. Most wagons that have second row headrests have 3. Some have 2 (particularly in non-split second row seating). Having said that, you can install 1, 2 or 3. The seat back metal (both bench and split seat) have mount locations for 3 positions even on cars that came with 2 headrests. So 2 isn't "wrong".

3. The best write-up I found neglects instruction of the "release" button in the carpeted area of the seat back. The release button is a two-piece plastic rivet and is available from MB. I can find the part number if someone needs it.

4. I _might_ have one bracket set (one seat) left somewhere but I think I don't. I gave up the headrest hunt when I started burning out on junkyarding. <5 minutes later - just checked, I don't think I have a bracket left but I am attaching a picture showing the difference in the rail end from a front seat headrest and a rear seat headrest. As I said, you can still use the front seat headrest in the rear but technically it isn't supposed to pivot)

5. My recollection is that W124 wagon 2nd row headrests are not the same but I'm not 100% sure of this. I know that the brackets are not the same.

6. Headrest COVERS for lots of the cars are the same, include same year W126 headrest covers. Not too difficult to swap them. (assuming later W123 headrests with the plastic seam seal and not the early zipper seam seal, which I don't know how to do.

Still need a single blue one. Will a front W124 work? And is the blue the same shade as a W123? W123 seems a bit darker to me.

Yes, any model 107, 123, 124,126 or 201 Mercedes front or wagon rear headrests used during that period, 1982 - 1995 will work. The blue is the same for all models. There is a difference in feel/texture between leather and MBTEX. As for darker, 30 year old upholstery may be faded.
