WANT TO BUY: W123 37-ish pound FLYWHEEL

Howdy,

Looking for the really heavy Flywheel used in W123s OM617.9XX engines and 5 speeds (or 4 speeds I guess). I've seen it listed as 37 pounds and a few other places at 38 pounds. Not sure there are 2 out there with such a fine distinction.

Willing to pay cash or cash and swap for new injectors installed in nozzle holders.

I prefer one which was not messed with since I need to install it in my turbo engine rebuild. I swapped my prior one not realizing I will need it for my current turbo engine re-build. (see my thread on pulley swapping and you'll see how I got to this conclusion) ...

Are you sure you want the really heavy one. My limited experience with these engines is that the really heavy one fits a manual transmission, I have a few of the flywheels for automatic tranmsissions, but they don't weigh anywhere near 37 lbs

Yes, I need one. My tranny is a five-speed Getrag 717.400

The part # is 617 030 0005.

A g-wagon flywheel is around 33-34Lbs. It may be easier to source as well. That is what I am using. G specific clutch parts are obtained from Euro Truck.

It might ... but no dice finding any of those either.

Trying to beat the dealer's price OR

might try the 4-speed flavor, which is 20-some pounds. Since everything is balanced, I am guessing it might be OK with the lighter one.

Funny! When I tried the dealer for the 38#er they said NLA. Maybe I had the wrong part number. I was using a euro 300d VIN. Maybe they made more.

Not sure about shipping pricing to you, but try South Atlanta MB. Won't be the first time I ordered and paid for a part only to be told a few weeks later NLA. Nothing funny about that one .... lol.

Dealer is the last option, however.

Isn't the 20-something pounder the OM616 flavor?

I think there's multiple part numbers and flavors of the OM617 sedan flywheel.

Yes to both, but the five-speed mounted to the 4 cylinder (OM616) "could" have the 37-8 pounder. And yes, I'm discovering there are multiple parts, and corresponding different part numbers, for the same exact application. EG - balancing disk, vibration damper, and pulley hub could have multiple flavors for the NA engine (5 cylinder). I started collecting the fiche pictures from some of the parts' sites regarding parts ...

All of the online mb parts "wholesalers" are famous for that, they only show stuff as NLA if Mercedes does not show a price for it. In the Mercedes catalog at the dealer it will show the "last price" for an item, but that does not mean there is any in stock anywhere in the world. I don't know if its an issue with merging the lists of part numbers and prices with the website or what, but I often look up weird parts on one of those sites before I call my dealer and stuff that they show as available has been NLA for a decade. Its also why some of their prices seem so cheap, the price is from like 1994.

It's either that, or seeing on the web the part is "NLA" and as a lark, I called the dealer to see if they had it ... and bingo "one" was found.

So, who knows. If I can locate pre-merger AMG parts, finding anything else is a matter of time, patience, and how much one wants to pay.

That's true of just about anything haha.

I was just trying to offer some insight and my experience.

I'm sure this flywheel will turn up for you for less than new dealer prices, they are uncommon, but far from "rare."

No, I appreciate it !

The MB parts game is sort of like the Packard parts game when I tinkered with that grand make now gone. You could literally find anything-- even though they went out of business circa 1957.
