WTB. W123 upper front seat frame

Hello all I am wondering if anyone has a seat for w123 around 1980 that they are wiling to sell me only the upper half. I do not wish to receive the horse hair or upholstery. If the springs are intact that would be best but not necessary. Driver or passenger I believe are the same, so either one.
Thanks
Chris

Chris, I am preparing to strip down a pair of front euro seats (no armrest, so they are the same)
Would be happy to send you an upright, just afraid shipping will kill the deal. PM me your address and I will get an estimate soon.
Include a list of any other w123 parts needed or desired

Once you get it down to just the frame and springs I think it will be manageable as far as shipping. PM sending.

Sorry Chris, my seat back frames are toast.
The bottom spring boxes are both very good though if anyone needs one or 2?!

And the black leather skins are off and ready for sale!
Sorry to highjack.

The w123 seat uppers hold the adjuster handle and seat belts which are driver and passenger specific. The seat belt can be moved but the adjuster handle is a bit tougher to move from one side to the other. I've just taken the skins off a passenger seat and moved them to a drivers seat. The bottom was easy but the top I had to keep the drivers seat frame and cut a hole for the armrest in the swapped cover. I've got a passenger seat upper frame sitting in my garage right now. I also have a vgc palamino drivers seat upper- but no arm rest.

The backrest frames come in 2 styles. 76-82 and 83-85. Make sure you get the correct style. Some Euro versions had the early style til the end of production I think. There may be other variables. Best to get a part number by your VIN, then look for that style.

Thanks for that info. Ill be looking out for the correct style. I'm pretty sure I saw one at the boneyard on a 77 W123 that looked the same as mine. My model year is uncertain. It is definitely between 1980 -1982. The dealer can't even tell me. I'll look up that part number. I have a sweet relationship with the dealer and they will help even if I don't purchase their part.
This car is a real mystery. Came from West Berlin. How it got here in 1982 is unknown for sure . I'm fairly sure, It was flown out of West Berlin to a West German port then boated to here.

The backrest was flat across the back up to the end of 82 (US) and was curved or contoured from 83-85 (US). This contour was for added rear seat legroom. The Euro spec cars seem to be hit or miss in that respect. I have plenty of backrest frames in good shape. PM your VIN and I will make sure to find you the correct one.

The best way to tell the year model on a Euro spec MB is to look at the date codes on the back of the gauges and speedo. That will get you pretty damn close. There is also a date code (usually) on the label for the seat belts.

You can also call the Classic Center and give them the VIN. They may be able to research and find the production date.

Keep in mind that in Europe, if the vehicle was made built December 31st of 1981, it is an 81 model. Not like in the states. I had a customer with a US spec 1995 E300 Diesel that was built in November 1993 but the 10th digit of the VIN and the title said it was a 95. That is ridiculous to me. I think they should go by the production date in the US too, but auto manufacturers don't care what I think.
