wtb tranny for 87 sdl

My transmission just went out and I am looking for one in good working shape. The car is a 87 300sdl. I'm located in Athens Georgia

I've got one, in a 87 sdl. Upstate SC.

would the trans be the same as an 85 sd? if so i can give u a number to a guy prolly be good price.worked great

Sbucha 04-10-2015 07:14 AM

I don't think it would work but I'm not positive. It's got to be a 722

Sbucha 04-10-2015 07:27 AM

Mine is a 722.321

Try and make a deal on one locally. Shipping is a killer.

But if you can't find one south of the mason dixon line, I have one here in the snowy north.........

They are both 722.3s actually the but the .3xx is different. 617 and 603 have different bell housings and the starters are on opposite sides, they will not work in each others place.

Ah, thanks! So will anything fit besides 722.321?

Here is the entire car for $1200. If you keep the SDL as a DD for long you can use almost everything on this car.

A 722.3xx from M103/104 engines could be used as a starting point, with valve body and modulator (and possibly the governor) from the .321 installed.

Thanks Chris. That's probably me your speaking of :0

My transmission number is 722303
an 87 sdl has a 722.321

I guess they don't fit. Someone may get it here soon. If anyone needs it its a good fresh rebuild. I could drive a little way to meet.

anyone tried this place? free shipping and good warranty. But i wonder how well they test them and if they just throw another at you if yours breaks. thats a pretty high price for a used tranny. you can get a new rebuilt one done for that.

Any 1986-1987 300SDL trans is a bolt in.

The 350SD/350SDL from 1990-1991 is also a bolt in.

You could use the trans from a 1986-1987 W124 300D/300TD (which has the identical engine) but you would need to swap the tail, the W124 has the mechanical speedo drive vs your electric speedo pick up.

I have one from a 1987 300SDL. But shipping will be $150.

I'm actually only @2 hours from him, and he's thinking about getting mine. So, I'm just waiting on him to decide.
