FOR SALE: 5 Speed OM617 Getrag 717.400 PLATE
For sale:
The ONLY drop-in five speed transmission for the OM617.9XX engine is the Getrag 717.4XX, and for the turbo OM617.952, it's the Getrag 717.400 (others in this family have less than optimal gearing). I am selling the adapter plate which goes in-between the engine and tranny. A person wanting to do the conversion, will need this part. I have two of them. $325 EACH shipped CONUS. CONUS = Continental United States. Includes $300 worth of insurance. |

How is it different from a 4 speed adapter plate? I have that 3rd gear vibration going on still. I wonder if this will help.

I understood it was different. There was a thread somewhere that someone tried using the 4 speed one and it would not work. HOWEVER, I got some traffic that they are the same, so I need to verify / investigate this first. I know there are a zillion threads and posts with folks trying other transmissions than the Getrag 717.400, and YET no one has created anything particularly easy to bolt on or just "works", even after all these years. So, I will try to verify one way or another.

Try reading a little? I indicated because I cannot verify their application, they are yanked for sale. Your post is inappropriate -- start your own thread or save your smartass comments for the political or religions sections. They are apparently more appreciated over there.

I actually am using the original plate from the auto transmission 617.952.
I would love to see pics of the two side by side. Plate for Auto 617... and 5 speed 617...

I am looking for one. I think I got one under my house in the crawl space. They could be the same for all I know. Someone posted on S T D and indicated he thinks the part# begins with 115 but I know that cannot be 100% correct since mine start with 114 I think. I will have to double check. I might end up keeping these since I know they originally came from a 5 speed set-up and I have seen and experieced too many times trying a mod or different part and the "replacement" does not fit or there's an issue. Hopefully, the plates are all the same overall since that would be one less part for those trying to do the mod. I know a bunch of folks claimed that a number of 5 speed shifters were the same and after some folks tried them, it turned out not to be the case and the 5 speed shifter is unique to the 5 speed.

I am pretty sure the plates are not unique to the five speed nor even to manual vs automatic trannies.

I did find a plate from an automatic tranny and they are different. There are dowels or pins and they are apparently in different places which won't permit them to align correct. However, many folks are claiming they are exactly the same, which could be true except for the one I found. It's not worth the possible issues, so that is why I yanked it a while ago. Thanks for the post Tom. |
