Anyone in SoCal have a prechamber collar nut tool to loan me?

Or rent to me?

Getting some weeping below the injectors and would love to take care of this soon.

The dude "Captain America" on SuperTurboDiesel.com forums is out west too and has the fancy tool, give him a holler.

If you want to pay shipping I can loan you my tool. $75 deposit + $6 for a flatrate box and she's in the mail.

Edit: Are you 100% sure it's the collar and not the injector? The collar would let gases blow out, but not liquids.

That's interesting. I'm not getting any bubbling or anything like that when the engine is running, just wetness, shininess. Cylinder 3 is completely dry, like an old cast-iron pan, the other 3 have a sheen to them constantly. This didn't begin until I replaced my injectors with rebuilt ones. So either I torqued them incorrectly or I inadertantly loosened the collar nuts removing the old injectors (which is reasonable considering this had not been done in 35 years).

You're saying the collar nut should not cause wetness? IS there a test for escaping gasses in case there are gases escaping that I cannot detect from a plain visual inspection?

As suggested above, the collar being loose won't cause wetness. It will only let gas escape. Wetness is coming from the injector halves leaking, the hard line leaking where it attaches to the injector body, or the rubber return lines leaking (most common cause).

I've seen it suggested to use white foam shaving cream to test for combustion gas leaks from the prechambers. Squirt some out, smear it around and look for the bubbles to be growing.

None of those areas are leaking though... I've degreased and observed several times though. After a drive, I swab all of those points and the paper towel or q-tip is clean. The leak is coming from the injector seat.

If there is a leak, it is most likely 99% caused by the 3.2mm braided flexible return lines. There's a bunch of threads on it on PP and other MB forms. Those injectors should not leak at the halves. I held pressure for a solid minute without any visible leaks and no massive leakdown on the gauge. Plus, in around 6 or 7 years of doing injectors, I have had very very few leakers, count them on a hand or maybe two depending on those which really leaked or not. So, having 3 of them leaking is just statistically not happening.

If you can clean them then wrap a dry paper towel around a leaker, you should be able to isolate the leak. Wrap it around the top to isolate the high pressure line and then try just the barbs. If they are really leaking at the halves, PM me.

There isn't any way for fuel to come back up the prechamber from the lower half like that unless you didn't torque the halves together or you're leaking from up high and just not noticing it. A weep can be really hard to pin down the source.

You did put the injector heat shields in the right way around right? Beveled side down towards the prechamber, concave side up against the injector face?

I used all the new line you provided, but I can always triple check. The injector halves are definitely not leaking. Again, I either didn't torque enough or something else is loose.

I was certain I did, was very careful about that... at this point, Im going to buy new shields and try again so I suppose I'll be able to verify.

Mark - I'll definitely try the paper towel method with a rubber band or a zip tie.
