WTB: Euro Bumpers W123 Coupe
Been wanting a set of euro bumpers for my '83 coupe.
Not sure how tough these are to find, but thought I'd ask.

It depends if you want the one piece Euro bumpers (with rubber ends - looks like a small version of the US bumpers) or the three piece wrap around high end Euro gas model bumpers.
Both are rare here in North America, and the three piece bumpers are very rare stateside. Based on my research and fairly recent acquisition of both types, it will probably cost you $500 for a nice set of the one piece and at least $1000 for a nice set of the three piece.

would the one piece design be "correct" for the coupe body style? and more importantly, do the one piece euro bumpers mount to the coupe body without mods?
I guess since the coupe diesel was only made for north America, there really isn't a correct euro bumper.

Yes, the one piece will mount up. The inboard mounting holes for the rear NA spec bumper will be visible, so you will want to plug those.
The 3 piece came on European gas models - mostly 280s but also some 230s, coupe and sedan. The wagon uses the one piece front bumper like any Euro diesel or lower end gas engine-powered coupe/sedan. It has a unique rear bumper with cutouts for the reverse lights. Quote:

All coupe models and the top of the line 280 M110 models came with the 3-piece bumpers. The 230E sedans came with one piece bumpers. The wagon version of the 280 also came with a one piece bumper, but the rear bumper as mentioned above has a cut-out for the reverse and fog lights. |

Did you find your bumpers?
Hey there - I sold my '78 280ce recently, and never got around to installing my nice set of 3-piece bumpers. They are in the shed, collecting dust. I have the front and rear 3-piece bumpers with good/great condition chrome, all rubber, and the subframes for each. The front bumper subframe needs to be repaired due to rust. I can send you photos if you email me at sfo1013@me.com.
Asking 900.00 for everything, plus shipping from California.
