WTB 3.46 or 3.64 185mm diff for 124

I'm looking for a 3.46 or 3.64 ratio diff with the newer style mounting. I'd prefer to buy it from a forum member than a wrecker.

Located in Lafayette Indiana.

The w201, w124, w202, w210, R170 all use this same mounting.

I’m just curious I never seen a differential in a W124 higher then 3.27 i seen a 3.46 in a W201 but is the smaller 1.65 mm not a 185 mm that’s why I’m curious what model would have a 3.46 or 3.64

I know most of the shorter ratios are euro 202 and 170 cars but I think some us diesels have the 3.46 as well. This is going in a 190 that currently has a 185mm diff.

David Hendy, that's a 124 250TD? cool car! let me know what happens with that.

Benzguy300, I have a 3.27 in it right now. Thank you for your offer though.

What does a ~1995 e320 have in it? There’s a rear end from one of those on the floor in my friends shop.

A differential from a W140 will not fit a W201 or W124

I agree - the smaller differentials are from smaller engine sized W201s and W124s => 1.8 and 2.0 in the W201 and potentially the 2.3 too (though I'm not 100% sure about that)

The problem with the smaller differentials is that they have a far too flexible housing which means the pre-load on the axial bearings is more or less impossible to maintain. I've been struggling with these buggers for years.

The other downside to the smaller differentials is that you then need slightly longer axles to match. (Or from my perspective if I wanted a decent large differential I'd have to find the uber expensive as common as rocking horse **** short axles for the W201)

Such a bad situation I've even considered trying to fit BMW or Alfa parts...
