WTB: W123 300D Front Brake Calipers ATE

I am trying to save my daughter's 1983 300D from the crusher but I am not happy with the remanufactured calipers being offered on the market and can't justify buying new ATE's for this car. So, I am looking for a pair of ATE front calipers suitable for rebuild or restoration.

Edited to add: It is the front left that I am most in need of. What was on the car was cracked on the lip of the casting that is covered by the dust boot. So if you don't have a pair, front left would do.

Thanks.

I could always buy a parts car for the cost of two new Ate front calipers, but the garage is full. Still looking.

To the member who messaged me, I sent two replies expressing interest. I don't know if they were received.

I would recommend that you check with forum users Hogweed (Gregg) or ROLLGUY (Rich). Both have parted out several W123 cars.

AG:

You might wish to consider switching to Bendix calipers; they are functionally identical to ATE, more readily available, and rebuild kits are still available.

Thanks for the replies. Looking back, I would have been better off buying new calipers from the beginning.

I started out ordering rebuild kits, pads and hoses but found a stuck piston once the calipers were off the car and inspected. I then decided to order Cardone reman's only to receive brand new unmarked "Ate looking" calipers from Asia. I sent those back and ordered reman's from Centric. The Centric's showed pitting on the pistons and just didn't look like quality rebuilds so I also sent those back.

I decided to have the original calipers replated and restore them myself and ordered new OE pistons from Mercedes. That required removing the pistons and splitting the calipers before shipping to the plating shop, and that's when I discovered the crack under the dust boot.

Because of the investment in parts I'm going to give this one last try on saving the Ate's but I am open to Bendix if it comes to that.

Two questions:

#1-Where did you order the Cardone calipers from? Autozone? Advance?

#2-Same question for the Centrics?

I've put O'Reilly reman calipers, front & back, on 6 of my cars with no problems. So I was interested if you had tried O'Reillys?

The Cardones were ordered from Advance online and returned locally. Again, they were brand new Asian aftermarket calipers and not remans. The Centrics were ordered from CARiD. I wouldn't buy either one again, but some have had better luck.
