W123 Larger Diameter Rear Swaybar Feedback
For those that have recently installed a larger 15mm (.62" dia.) Rear Swaybar, are you happy with the handling improvement or wonder if a larger diameter might further improve the handling without creating new issues?
I was able to obtain a factory 15mm rear Swaybar a few years ago & can feel a difference, but have considered stepping up to a .75" dia

Its been a long time since I upgraded the rear ASB on my '83 300D but I do recall it was worthwhile, giving a little more response on quick turns. It was the next size up, what, a Limo bar?
Used OE Bilstein shocks. In my '87 300D I had Sportline bars (front and rear) installed in it, that put a big smile on my face whenever I drive curvy roads (Sportline springs and shocks made it a complete mod!) FYI, the best upgrade I did to my 123 sean was to put an '85 diff in it, the taller gearing was not a problem at all and really made the car a dream to drive at freeway speeds. DDH

The change from 15mm(.59") to .75" dia. will increase the torsional stiffness by a factor of 2.61. Torsional stiffness varies with the fourth power of the diameter.

I'd be reluctant to put on a 3/4" bar. as Frank noted that is a huge increase.

The biggest possible show stopper is the width of the ends which accept the threaded rod piece of the rear links. The bar which I had produced and selling is the thickest possible without custom rear links. From engagement with SB gurus you cannot or should not shave down those ends or risk some sort of break. The thickness which I settled on is the thickest you can go without the need for custom rear links. So far the 15.8mm SB has received nothing but 2 thumbs up. That’s from the regular driver to the rally folks.
