Had this car since same time last year, but cannot find a used interior trim panel for the driver's door to replace my damaged one. The cloth which is "mushroom" or cream beige with the darker shaded criss cross patterns is ok and no damage. The only damage apparently is the backing board which has collapsed in the elbow area between the armrest and the wood trim strip. Area affected about 6 inches width and 4 inches height. The backing board is cracked in many spots around the fringe of the area plus parts inside this area. I have been told that the interior car trimmers are capable of fixing this breach in the backing board and strengthening it to look as good and feel as normal. Can this be true? How can I find a used part if there are any of this piece or do I have to get the whole door? The local dealer quoted A$2000 at least to have this fabricated in Germany for me and the labour hasn't been counted yet. Maybe I should just ignore this problem, its cheaper this way. I have seen the 1991 onwards BMW 318i cars which have lots of door trim panel damage due to sun glare/heat and they lift off the backing boards and are not fixable due to the complex countours. Comments are welcome.
