Mercedesshop.com member "1two4" ripped me off!!! His name is William Crosby. His email address is brcosb@earthlink.net.

I agreed to buy some parts from him here on mercedesshop.com and sent the money in Dec 2003. It has been 3 months since I've sent him payment and I have received nothing but broken promises and lies.

I have made numerous attempts to contact him and each time he replies with another lie just to get me off his back for a few days. Well, Mr. William Crosby I've lost my patience...I am asking the moderators to maintain the integrity of this forum by BANNING William Crosby so that no one else will get ripped off like I did.

It's people like him that ruin everything for everyone else.

Truly sorry to hear that!

I try not to buy from anybody with less than 500 post. It means they've been here awhile and people know them. Its just my little way to not get ripped off. This probably is no comfort to you right now but remember it for the next time ok. The more post a person has here the better.

New member, 5 total posts, no email. The no email part does look suspicious to me, especially for someone with something to sell. But as they say, 20/20 hindsight...

I hope that if he see's this in print, he will reply & make good with you.
Also if I may ask what is the number of posts required before a person can offer to his fellow Benz members an item for sale?

with zero posts. Nice to greet a neighbor, amg-88!! Unfortunately, i don't think the 201's and 126's share a lot of parts.

I have not had the problems that jrmd01 has using E-bay, but I just thought that someone that knows about Mercedes would like to have some hard to find parts.
I thought I read somewhere, that you had to have a certain number of posting before you could use the parts for sale forum.
Well I guess I will drop out of this thread now.

You could always go through the hassle of prosecuting them.

My wife got ripped off by someone on Ebay who, as it turned out, was on 10 years probation for mail fraud (!)

A bunch of people who had been ripped off started e-mailing each other, and finally someone found the name of the offending seller's probation officer.

Quoting the name of the seller's probation officer (to the seller, in an e-mail) suddenly got lots more results than all the threatening e-mails to date.

The purpose of my post is to protect other members of this forum from getting ripped off. I am not slandering anyone, just merely stating my experience. Here is exactly what transpired.

11/19/03 - 1two4 posted parts for sale in the parts section of mercedesshop.com
11/20/03 - I requested to buy the rearview mirror and driver side power seat switch
11/24/03 - Check for $24 sent via US mail
1/10/04 - Items not received --- 1st attempt to contact 1two4
1/11/04 - 1two4 responded said he’s been busy with a funeral, will prepare parts to ship
1/15/04 - Items not received --- 2nd attempt to contact 1two4
1/15/04 – 1two4 responded said he can’t find seat switch, but will ship rearview mirror
1/17/04 – Items not received --- 3rd attempt to contact 1two4
2/?/04 - 1two4 said he lost the check, won’t ship until I cancel check. Will give me the parts for free.
2/?/04 – 1two4 said he found the check. He’ll deposit the check then send the rearview mirror
2/26/04 - Items not received
2/26/04 – Posted on Mercedesshop.com my experience with 1two4
2/26/04 – Requested mercedesshop.com moderators to ban 1two4
2/26/04 – Went to bank to stop payment (cost $19)

These are the facts clearly illustrating my experience.

I know it’s not that much money (only $24), but it’s the principle that I’m standing up for.

I visit Mercedesshop.com often for advice and have even bought and sold things on it. To maintain the forum’s integrity, dishonest members should be exposed and banned to protect everyone. My small loss might save another fellow mercedesshop.com member hundreds of dollars.

Robert - That's a great story. Congrats to your wife.
amg88 - I have bought many things online, this is the first time I have been scammed. I don't think there is a min post requirement to sell here on mercedesshop.com
TomE500 - I agree, I should have paid COD or paypal and used common sense.
GermanStar - Most members on this forum are trustworthy. I found a "bad apple" and exposed him to protect everyone else.
yal - It was only $24 so I took a chance. Unfortunately I got "burned"

Paying thru paypal, particularly if you are using your linked checking account, is also no good. I purchased software in ebay on two occasions and paid using paypal. The software I received were fake (copy) when I complained and requested for money back, I was told to resolve the matter with the seller. Although the seller was eventually suspended from ebay, I never received my money back. Finally, paypal said that I should file a complaint with various government agencies and was provided a list. Just like the car lease agreement or extended warranty, they have a lot of disclaimer in fine prints. When the time comes for a refund, they will always invoke, not covered by this, not covered by that, etc. Paypal in my experience is using false advertisement and deceiving people of their hard earned money. I am confident that sooner or later, the law will catch up on them.

I am deeply sorry that you have had this experience. that member has been banned.

I hope you get things resolved here, it is a shame that there are people who would do that to members of this great community of mercedes owners. I am absolutely furious about this happening to one of my fellow mercedesshop members.

If anyone has had an experience like this, I hope everythign works out for the best for you.

So JR....what type of MB did you need the parts for? If I had that info, I maybe able to help you...but send the money when you get the parts is all I ask, since I don't have the required minimum of 500 posts yet.

I am sorry that you were ripped off also, but what goes around comes around...and what Mr. Crosby did to you will return to him....maybe when he's least expecting it! He should be ashamed of himself for taking your money without living up to his end of the deal....that's bad business Mr. Crosby....didn't you learn that in school?

I have many connections for parts, so let me know your year model and I'll see what I can do for you. AND, my hat is off to the moderators for the "big ban"! Glad to see some justice is still alive in this world...way to go Alon!
