I put a set of used 18" Lorinser Wheels with a new set of 245/40/ZR18 Tires on my 93' 300SL. I have 2" spacers on the rear and 1/2" on the front. The spacers appear to be needed, because if I don't use them the wheel won't fit properly on the car(Too much play on the hub). I was told that the spacers are used as a "certrifical center piece". I have noticed very extreme inside wear on the LR tire. Is this from an alignment and if it is, how should I get the car aligned. This only started when I placed this new wheel/tire configuration on my car. According to MB Dealer the factory spec's won't work with 18" wheels for an alignment. Any help.

If the wheel/tire combo is the same rolling radius as stock, I'm not sure what the problem would be. When mounting aftermarket wheels you should have different lug nuts that are specialized to that fittment. Make sure you have the right lugs and spacer fittment from Lorinser. If you are noticing odd wear on one specific tire/location then an alignment problem is more suspect. Even if your dealer can't get the car perfectly to factory specs, he should be able to get it close to spec or at the very least, even from L to R.
Hope this helps...Lee |
