Hello,
I recently purchased a 2006 ML 350 (W164). It came stock with OEM 19 x 8 chrome wheels. However, I am not a fan of chrome wheels and I am looking to replace them. I am about to purchase a new set of wheels, but I am a bit concerned about the fitment and was hoping that an expert here could help me out.
My current stock wheels again are 19 x 8 with a 60mm offset. The new wheels that I am looking at are 19 x 8.5 with a 45mm offset. If I am calculating the numbers correctly (between the extra half inch in rim width and the 15mm offset difference), then the new wheels will stick out approximately .85 inches more to the outside of my vehicle than the current wheels.
My question is this - Will this .85 inch difference make the new wheels stick out beyond the wheel wells? I do prefer a slightly more beefy and wider look (like on the AMG's), and therefore wouldn't mind the new wheels moving out just a little further than where the stock wheels are currently positioned. However, my concern is that .85 inches might be too much and make the vehicle look silly, not too mention adversely affecting performance/handling. Am I overanalyzing this? Is it less of a difference than I am making it out to be? Or, is this actually too dramatic of a change and would it really be pushing the wheels out too far?
Thank you.
