Getting Wheels Chromed

Hi,
I just saw a 560 SL with chromed wheels and I thought it looked great. Does any one know where I can get the wheels from my 1986 560 SL chromed? Any idea of the cost and if you think this is a worthwhile upgrade.

Search the archives on Chroming - most feel that it weakens the wheel, and is not as durable/reparable as painted wheels (curb rash, winter damage, etc.). MB, in fact, won't sell chrome wheels. The dealerships send them out for those that want them!

Neither Brabus nor AMG offically endorse chromed wheels as well.

In fact, Germany's TUV will not certify a chromed wheel.

MERCEDES BENZ Has a service bulletin requesting NOT to chrome plate any wheels............
I still have the copy from when i was a tech. but YOU can have the wheels POLISHED and they look almost as good and wont peel in 2years,or leak air! thats what i did on my monoblocks and yes its more work to maintain them BUT arent we car nuts? :p

After hearing all the replies against chroming Mercedes wheels I guess I will go with the opinion not to.How do you polish the wheels? Is it a process I can do myself ? Any steps will be appreciated..

Polishing is fairly straight-forward, but you have to have the right equipment, abrasives, etc.

Better to have the same company that's doing the actual chroming, do the polishing.
