'87 rims on an '85 300 SEC?

I posted this question over on the wheels section of the forum but no replies over there. Maybe the question will get more traction (pun intended) over here.....

I've got an extra set of rims from my '87 300D that I'm selling on craigslist and this guy e-mailed me asking if these would work on an '85 SEC500. I have no clue. Can anyone enlighten me?

These are the standard rims found on stock '87 300Ds....don't have a photo right now.

Thanks -harv

What offset are the rims you have, and what offset does the SEC need?

W126 are different than W124, it is the model that makes the difference, not so much the year

Thanks. Not to sound naive, but how do I determine the offset?

In terms of the model, are you concluding that the rims from an '87 300D (W124) will not work on the '85 500SEC (W126). I did some searching on the web and did find photos of some '85 500SECs with the same rims....or at least they look the same. -harv

Your 300D is a 124 E class which has a mid 40's off set, Now this guy's SEC is a 126 S class which means his stock offset is around 30. The 126 can run anywhere from 30-11mm off set. So long story short no not without spacers.
