I know it all depends on how you drive and how often you drive. BUt, I like to know how often you have to replace your 18" rim tires on average. I heard that low-profile tires wear out faster than others. Is this true? Thanks.

18" low profile tires do not wear out faster than any other size tire. The reason that alot of people think that low profile tires wear out faster is because, typically low profile tires offer significantly more performance, so they are driven harder on a regular basis. They offer better traction and cornering which gives most drivers more confidence to drive hard.

Justin,
Performance tires tend to wear faster (regardless of profile/aspect ratio) but that is due (in addition to the reasons Luke mentioned) to the tire using stickier but quicker wearing compounds than touring/all-season tires. Though I've seen many cases where a touring (usually longer lasting) tire wore out more quickly than a more aggressive tire because it was "overwhelmed" on a car that was either hard on tires (W124 V8's for instance) or driven in a more aggressive fashion. Hope this helps...Lee |
