MICHELIN = JUNK!! Dry ROT
Another brand bites the DUST(Michelin=cheap crap). I have 2 defects in my Michelin Harmony tires($120/each) along with DRY ROT. Please research 'Michelin DRY ROT' before purchasing any of their tires; you can thank me later.;)

How old are they?
Dry rot affects all tires once they get to be a certain age. |
Definitely not the norm; I've owned every major brand, and Michelin is far and away the best quality and riding/handling tire I've ever owned........pilot sports, harmonys, exaltos.....if they're more than 4 years old, dry rot wouldnt surprise me

I have used Michelins for 40 years and have never had a problem. Not one. Read the tires; how old are they?
|
I'd rather have a dry rotted Michelin than a brand new Goodyear:).

A friend keeps having bubbling issues with the sidewalls on his Eagle F1s! |
My newest set of Michelin Primacy mxv4 have what they call "ozone cracks" on the side wall after 2 years. Not happy and ozone cracks are not covered by the roadhazzard warranty.

"Michelin tires are round, Goodyear tires are black" Oh, and to add to the thread- a good alternative for a nice high performance tire are the Hankook Ventus Evo K12 (or whatever they are) I came off a set of Pilot Sports and for daily street use the Hankooks are quieter, smoother and have a very similar feel. I got them at Discount tire and a $100 rebate. Spent less than $500 installed :) I drive between LV and PHX at high speeds it makes the drive so much quieter and nicer. Disregard this if you track the car however. Pilot Sports have superior feel and hold better under extended use. rjp |

Ya know, I can never figure statements like this out. So many people complain about noise on the Pilot Sport, but mine are the smoothest and quietest tires Ive had (3 sets, 3 diff Benzes) Most ANY tire will ride and handle well for the first 1000 miles (when new). The quality (or lack thereof) will show through pretty quickly, however. It may be important to note that mine are A/S and A/S plus, not the "summer" Pilot Sports. |
I have to say, one of the best tires I have had were my Michelin PS2s. Amazing grip, quiet, and decent treadlife.
With that said, I cannot afford to fork out $1300 everytime I need tires. I made a compromise and chose Hankook V12 Evos, and have been very happy. Quiet, great treadlife, and decent grip, and best of all, $700 shipped for all 4 tires. The back of my E55 kicks out more easily with the Hankooks, but its very controllable with these tires. |
Same happened to me. See here: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/wheels-tires/256275-dry-rot-3-month-old-michelins.html
I ended up taking them back and getting a set of Nexxen's for 1/2 the price. No signs of dry rot since. |
