Does anyone know if mercedes made 8 hole polished/aluminum wheels for the W124 cars?
Hi does anyone know if mercedes made 8 hole polished aluminum wheels for the W124 cars? I have been told that they made them for the "S" class cars in the nineties. I was wondering if they made the 8 hole polished/aluminum wheels for the W124 cars? I have also been told that the "S"class wheels will not fit on a W124 car so hopefully someone can tell me if they made them for the W124 cars.
As always..thanks for your time Phillip 1992 300CE 81,000 miles |

Check out a discussion I started a little bit below titled "refinishing 8 hole rims".
I did a helluva search, and found some posts indicating that the 1995 8 hole rims on the W124 are polished, not painted. I bought some from a friend from his 95 W124 E420, and, yes, they are polished. I've checked a lot of S class 8 hole rims, and they've all been chromed or painted. None have been polished. They may be out there, but I haven't seen any yet. I also checked many C class 8 hole rims, and most are painted, some are polished, and a handful were chromed.

8 hole polished whels
Thanks guys the information is very much appreciated.
Suginami there is a set of 8 hole polished aluminum wheels on ebay item#1809492189 that a guy is selling that he says are factory wheels that fit "S"model mercedes cars from 1992-2002 Do you or Clauser 1 know the wheel size/ offset/width/ and diameter of the 8 hole polished wheels that came on the 1995 E420..do you know the part number and if they will fit a 1992 300CE?I would love to find a set if at all possible or at least buy a set from the dealer if im unable to find a good used set.I like the polished look...paint is too dull and the chrome is too shiny in my opinion. Clauser 1 your cars are very nice to put it mildly!!In reference to the 8 hole polished wheels when you said 1995 124 special edition exactly which model are you referring to...the 1995 E420 or another model that you know that had that type of wheel? Thanks guys ..if you know where i can find a set please let me know. Phillip 1992 300CE 81,000 miles |

There has been much talk of 8-hole wheels recently.
My understanding is that MB actually had three different finishes for the factory 8-hole wheels. My comments do not apply to aftermarket wheels. Not all were available for the W124. 1. Painted silver 2. Polished 3. Machine finish (often referred to as polished) Chrome finish was not available from the factory on the 8-hole wheels. Dealer installed accessory? Yes. The best descriptions I can give are as follows: 1. Painted silver....obvious to all here. 2. Polished (came on some S-Class). These wheels have the appearance of "near chrome" with a smooth surface. IMO, these are truly "polished" wheels....similar to the polished wheels on some Porsche cars...(the 928, for example). Much shinier than paint or machine finished wheels, but not the mirror finish of chrome. Durable when kept clean and not damaged. 3. Machine finish (often referred to as polished). These wheels came on selected W124 cars like the cabriolet and E420, among others. The look is like the late 90's C-Class 8-holes and upon close inspection, these wheels look like a freshly plowed field, they have tiny rows (like an album/LP) on the face of the wheel. Standing back from the wheel, these "rows" are not very noticeable, and have the appearance of a polished (see #2) wheel. I believe both the polished and machine finished 8-holes were clearcoated for protection. The polished wheels (if unattended) can come to have a cloudy appearance after some time. They have to be repolished (smooth) to be repaired. The machine finish wheels fair a little better as they do not have a perfectly smooth finish on the face of the wheel. Hope this helps |

Very nice post, El Presidente!
I can concur that the 95 E420 rims are machine finished, not polished. I understand that they are cut by a CNC machine, which is just a big computer controlled mill. You can clearly see the mill marks under close examination, which look just like the thin lines on a vynil record. I also have to believe that all non-painted rims are clear-coated. Otherwise they would rust / oxidize badly.

I also noticed on a co-worker's 98 C280 that her 8 hole rims are also machine finished.
