Newer Wheels and MXV4+'s on my 300CD-T

What's up,

I know that some of you like the 14" wheels and so do I... I'd keep them if they were nice.. but mine are so badly destroyed and I kinda doubt that the front wheels (which are in the worst condition) are still true.

Thinking that restored 14" wheels cost a lot of money I decided to go for these instead...
Replica 15" wheels with Michelin MXV4 Plus in 205/60/HR15

I still like the way the bundt-style wheels look in some ways.. but I think these clean up the looks of the car. I've always wanted these wheels ever since my jaws dropped when i saw a mint midnight blue W123 Coupe with these wheels just drove by on the highway...

I don't know why the pictures came out bad. About the worst pics my camera ever took... :(

I like how the 15's are more flush with the body.

The ride of the MXV4 Plus tires is amazing! Even though the tire pressure is still set at 35psi!

What do you guys think? I'm actually thinking of getting different center caps.. Either the one with a chrome star or the one with the Blue Mercedes Laurel (like on the SLK's)

or Should I just stick with what they're supposed to be? (silver)

I'm also looking for the right lug bolts... :p Ones that would be flush with the wheels (560SL's)

I wanted 16" Eight holes but I think they kinda look out of place...

Looks good. Now I know what my car would look like if I would have bought those chrome platted 15's a few years back. I found a set of four, for $30 at my local GoodWill. I didn't take them, but I tipped my friend off to them, and he bought them. I am still kicking myself for letting that deal go.

Thanks guys,

I did want to refinish my 14's but after I looked at them again... they really weren't worth refinishing. One of them is still in perfect condition and it now goes as the spare (I bet it was actually the spare...)

I really think that the ride is smoother with 15"s.. and definitely definitely not harder.. despite having tire pressures of 36 psi all around.

The Rainforce that I had before were SOOO hard if the tire pressure was at 32psi (max is 35?!) and were definitely louder

I think I might give them to my friend for him to put 'em on his 1990 Camry...sure beat his unknown brand S-rated tires heheh

I'm sure the MXV4 in 14" would be just as great.. but I kinda like the wider choice of tires that I have now.

Looking at the amount of driving I do and if the engine and tranny hold.. the tires won't be worn out by the time I leave the USA in 5 or so years..

$30 for four wheels?!@#.. damn...I wionder why I don't come across deals like this..

I really wonder what I'm gonna do with the old 14" wheels.. maybe I'll make a table out of them or something and put 'em in my living room...

Any thought on the center caps? ;)

I have yet to find another $30 deal like that, they were sitting under a table, in a box, so they just sat there for several months. The next time I find a set of 4 chrome wheels for $30, I am buying them.

Holson, if you don't mind me asking, where did you find the replicas and what'd they cost you?

btw....I think they look great!

Holson Adi 10-04-2002 10:31 PM

I paid close to a grand for the wheels shipped, mounted, with these tires. I wanted to go for cheaper tires and I might do that next time if these wear out fast.

I got them from tirerack.

You have a great looking car. I think your rims and tires look good. I think the larger rims give the car a wonderful update. I have 16" rims on my sedan.

Congratulations!

nice CD!

holson that's a beautiful CD. id like to see more pictures with it. the wheels look good. for some reason i think they look better on a coupe than a sedan. the sedans ive seen them on i think just look strange.

the hawaii S class, nice rims as well. they work well on that car.

personally im still a fan of the bundt cake rims, but id really really really like to find a set of the deep dish bundt cake rims. now those are a peice of work!

attached is my wheel. great repaint job in SC for $150 for all 4 wheels. unreal! ask me for the contact info if you're interested. i just wish there was a way to keep the lug nuts looking nice as the torque wrench strips the paint each time i have them rotated.

Eric and revray,

Thanks..
I don't have that many pics of it and honestly.. it's quite a 10 meter car... :( but that's allright for now. Slowly I'll find a mint older Benz.

here are some more pictures

$150 for a paint job is amazing.. but I doubt that I'll find such a deal in Boston. Anyway, I was thinking that maybe you could sand down the lug bolts to bare metal and maybe they would look better that way.

I really wanted them 15" bundt cake wheels!!!

I guess they do. Those wheels look like 15's to me. I think they were first made to fit the 6.3's and 6.9's or something.

Let me see if I can find more pics.

Peyton300TD 10-07-2002 08:29 PM

yes, 15" bundt's exist

you're right holson, they do exist and were originally created for those cars. they are hard to come by and the ones in the picture are 15"'s. notice how the dish is deeper as welll. i hear them called Deep Dish Bundt's.
