Weight of W210 17-inch wheels & tires?

Hello,

Does anyone know how much the wheel & tire weighs from a W210 with 17-inch wheels, like the E430 wheels, or Sport package? I'm specifically looking for data on the 17x7.5 ET37 wheel with a 235/45/17 tire mounted. Info on the 17x8.0 wheel would be fine too, and if anyone has data on the stock 16x7.5's wth 215 tires that's even better! A bathroom scale should be accurate enough, that's what I used.

The reason I ask is that I have a set of 17's that are quite heavy, and I can feel the difference in driving the car compared to the stock wheels - particularly when leaving a dead stop. I'd like to know if the OE W210 wheels are any lighter. Here's the data I currently have - note that my cars are W124, and I'd be using the W210 wheels on the W124 - NOT a 210! (They fit fine, as do 202/203/208's):

15 x 6.5 (stock 124), with 195/65 tire = 35lbs
16 x 7.0 (stock 202), with 205/55 tire = 40lbs
17 x 8.0 (Carat), with 225/45 tire = 50lbs

Any info would be appreciated - thanks! :D :D

I believe the weight of the OEM 17 x 7.5" wheel w/ 235/45 R 17 is close to 50 lbs or somewhere between 45 and 50.

It has been some time since I last checked but I know my Brabus are about 10 lbs more than my OEMs.

I hope this helps.

I have actually weighed the following myself:

stock 210/ 16" wheels w/ 215 55 16's are 40.0 lbs

AMG Aero II Monoblock 18X8 w/235 40 18's are 52.0 lbs

AMG Aero II Monoblock 18X9 w/265 35 18's are 54.0 lbs

I'd estimate your 17's at someplace in between.

Jay (and jeneric),

Thanks for the info! It's interesting that the W210 16x7.5 wheels weigh the same as the W202 16x7.0. At least I know there's no weight penalty for those. I'm thinking the factory 17 x 7.5/8.0 will be in the 47-50lb range, maybe someone will be able to weigh them & let us know exactly...

Thanks again!! :D :D

e430 wheels 17x7.5 weigh about 23 kilos with a 235/45/17 tyre, rims exactly like on 190 at 2phast.com

wheel weight

the lighter wheel will ride and handle better. the stickiness of the wider tires apparently overcomes this at some point but if everything else was the same weight the lighter will be better handling since it will go up and down faster and conform to the road better.

I disagree, flying in the face of a good, sound argument, based on my experience. I went from stock 15" alloys to AMG split-spoke 17x75s, which was a plus-3 tire upgrade. The car handles AND rides better. The suspension feels more settled with this setup, original shocks with 87k on them now. My guess is the new wheels (siginificantly heavier than the 15s) actually stay on the ground better due to weight/gravity. The lighter ones almost certainly will bounce upward more with the air-balloon style 195/65/15s. Now, HD shocks with 15s may be the best combo for road contact, but somehow with my setup, I"m getting the best of both worlds. I also have Potenza RE950s, which seem to be a great match for the wheels.
