confusion about wheels for W124 and W210 sedans

I am looking for a second set of wheels for use on my 1992 300E. The original wheels are 6.5JX15. Someone offered to sell me a set of 8-hole MB wheels which he said had come from a 1994 or 1995 320E. That would make sense. My catalogs show that the original equipment wheels for that era 320E were 6.5JX15 and I already have a set for summer tires. (The 8-hole wheels were originally introduced on the 400E earlier in the W124 run.) From a Mercedes Factory Service bulletin on wheel interchangeability, I understand the 400E/320E wheels have an offset of 44mm.
What is confusing me is that the photos sent to me of the wheels this fellow is offering show the part number as 210 401 03 02. That indicates a part for the 1996- E class cars. From my catalogs of those cars, the 1996 and 1997 E300D had 16 inch wheels and not 8-hole, they had a 10-hole design. The E320 had 17 inch wheels. The photos show 8-hole wheels that look just like the ones I have, so I owuld like to use them if they are correct.
BUT how could there be a wheel with a 210 model number if it is actually 6.5X15?
The odd thing is that I found a wheel listed for a completed sale on ebay with the same part number, and it showed an 8-hole wheel! It did not list the size, though. And of course the listing may have been correct. I also found a mention in the Mercedes Benz Club Star magazine that the E class would have 8 hole wheels, but this was an article written before the cars were actually on sale in the US, so it could also have been incorrect.

So, can anyone tell me for sure:
Was there an 8-hole wheel for the W210 E-class cars?
Is there any chance that the wheels I am looking at with the 210 part number could actually fit my car (i.e., be 15 inch wheels)? I suspect it is more likely the fellow switched to larger 16 or 17 inch wheels and does not really know the size. (I do not want to change sizes and I am leery of incorrect offsets.)

I can tell you I have a set of 16" 8 hole wheels for the '99 that I put snow tires on - so they do exist but they are not OEM. I think you'll have to dig further to find you answer.
