For Sale: A great diesel collection
I'm moving and need to liquidate my small collection. I've tried to price these reasonably and fairly. These vehicles are all in the San Fernando Valley section of Los Angeles. Here you go... (click on the thumbnail, then on the car- it corrects; why the thumbnail is upside down, you got me)
1. 1986 300SDL 82,000 miles from first and original owner, 6000 by me. 88,000 total. Showroom condition and perfect mechanically. I bought it at a very reasonable price and am able to pass this value along......$6200. 2. 1998 E300d 290,000 miles. Multiple owners before me. The fastest turbo diesel I've ever had (and I've had very many). Very good condition, excellent running gear, a couple of dings. Sunroof not working. $3450. 3. 1987 300D 260,000. Multiple owners prior to me. Salvage California title (after I was hit by a Ferrari at low speed in the left front quarter panel). This is also a turbo with punch. Sunroof not working, nor rear passenger window. A/c compressor working, blower not. Working parts with transaction. $2100. Take a picture of the odometer then drive it 25 miles and photograph the odometer again. Post both pictures here and I'll get back to you.

I have to know.....what is the purpose of the request. I am assuming you are asking about the 88k sdl right?

I think he's requesting that because he wants to verify the odometer works. At least that's how interpert that.

However, a meaningless test. Odometer gears might have just been replaced after another 100K miles had been driven with an odo dead since 88K or the whole odo changed out or even something more deliberately nefarious.

Guys he is not going to be claiming a show quality SDL with pre 88k with a non working odometer.....
But yes it could EASILY BE SWAPPED but this one does NOT smell of that... His price is worthy of a counter... I don't think the hard time he's being given is needed. (Besides his first post being a for sale and he not responding to questions now) One of the best tests to confirm milage is pull the cluster and look at the stamp on the back of it for what year it is. Although the back plate can be swapped as well but if you can get the seller to let u take that back plate off the odometer itself also has a date stamp on it that is nearly impossible to switch out without a half days work and scratching the heck out of the speedo and housing. Others than that the maintenance logs work well too. This car is new enough to have a car fax.
