Beautiful 1979 300TD in Brooklyn, Cheap (Sadly)

Hi all,

I have a Baby Blue 1979 300TD non-turbo Mercedes Wagon in a garage in Brooklyn that I can no longer keep there. I love that car to death but I also have an 87' that is just a way better car as my daily driver. Being in the city with two cars isn't the best, and I have to let one go.

The car has very little rust in the normal places, and the interior is in amazing shape. The car has been garaged for the last year +.

5 years ago I put a refurbished transmission in it, new starter, diff mount, motor mounts, new valve cover and tires. A few years ago I overheated it on the highway because of the evil climate control servo of death, which I've replaced with one that doesn't leak now.

Last time I drove it the motor didn't sound great, and I think it needed some brake work. If I were to keep it I'd probably put a used turbo motor in it if I couldn't get it sounding better. Right now though the garage is costing too much and I think it's time to let her go. I'm going to get it started this weekend and see if I can breathe some life back into it. It's a lovely car.

I'll consider all offers, maybe $2.5k? and can be around this week to show it. I'll post some pictures shortly. Happy to answer any and all questions!

AC: doesn't work, never has.
Self Levelling: Maybe, I could never tell. It's not saggy.
Turbo: no turbo. Naturally Aspirated
Interior Color: Dark blue, seats re-stuffed and comfy.
Third row seat: too old.

Can you post a video with it running so we can see what you mean about it not sounding good. Did this all start after it was overheated? Got any photos?

Hey folks, I'll be heading over to the car this weekend and I'll post some pics and maybe a video.

After the climate control servo broke, and it became winter, I put the car away and started driving the '87 exclusively. I think this car would be a pretty mild project for someone.

More soon,
Ben.

Hello there, sorry for my delay. This car is still for sale and I'm posting some pics here. I can take more detailed pictures for anyone who is interested.

The link is here and should work?

This weekend i went to the garage charged the battery, and the car started right up. I'm putting plates on it this week so it can be driven, but I wouldn't drive it too far or on the highway since it's been sitting for a while.

I will consider any offers!

Edit: I also meant to say: after starting the car this weekend and running it for a while, I think it is just idling too low and that may be why it sounds odd. With a tiny bit of throttle it actually sounds alright. I don't have an RPM meter (and there was no tach in this model year) So I don't know for sure.

Lowering price

Hi all, in an effort to get this car to a lovely new owner, I'm happy to reduce the price if anyone here is interested to around $1k. I'd really like to get it to a new home, having two cars here in brooklyn is getting a little tough

I might have missed it, but what was the mileage on your wagon?

Unhappy Another One Bites The Dust

Sadly this car looks like crusher fodder .

No one seems to care about the W123's anymore .

Hi Guys, Mileage is 165,905

It is too bad nobody wants to really save this car. I have a lowball offer right now to take the car for parts. I'll probably jump on it but I do still wish someone would take it for a project. The interior is pretty nice.

Frown.
