Why is it necessary to take mercedes 230 SLK auotomatic to dealer for gearbox oil change?

Not sure what your car year is but if it has no dipstick you don't have to take it to dealer for tranny service. You will need a way to read transmission fluid temperature and a way to fill it from the drain hole if it is newer car without the dipstick.
