blinking low range light
Following up on the previous post about low range problems, I was told by MB customer service that my 98 ml320 was ineligible for the free update based on its vin/chassis number. Is there any realworld basis, such as my vehicle used a different part and not the ones being updated? If so, why does this light now flash 5-6 times whenever I start the car? BTW, the weather has not been cold except for a few days last weekend.

You need to have someone find a copy of the service campaign and find out what is listed for the vin range on that campaign. It wouldn't hurt to simply have a VMI done and see if there are any outstanding campaigns on the vehicle.

Gilly, I gave MB the vin & they said no outstanding campaigns. I guess i'll have to bring it to the dealer & have them run the computer code & learn if its the same cure as the free update, then if if is, try for goodwill
