Yoko Geolander tires

Just wanted to give an update. Yesterday, in the nor'easter, I drove from NY to New London, Ct. The Yoko Geolanders, with about 5,000 miles, were superb, with no hydroplaning and excellent traction, handling and braking. I even got almost 24mpg on the return trip. Regardless of the various negatives cited by Consumer Reports, I think the tires are excellent in the key safety areas. Will need a snowfall to check that out.

I've been running Kumhos for the last 11,000 miles with no complaints. Still plenty of tread left. Much better ride & handling than the Generals I took off, but the Generals are lousy tires aside from long treadwear. My wife did alright in the snow last Wednesday, though I will take them off to put the Blizzaks on in a week or two. Can't beat 'em for the money!

I changed to 275/55/17 Continental contact 4x4 when the GrandTrek's expired (@60,000 kms).
They are a far better tyre in all respects.

Kumho Ecsta STX. They're a little noisy on certain pavement surfaces, but no other complaints. Good grip and treadwear.

Bridgestone Dueller H/P

Got 'em at Costco 275 60's I think they were $100 a piece. Much better than the crappy Generals the dealer had on the car. Look good as well. No snow here so not sure how they perform in those conditions. Seem to wear good as well. My C230 has Yokohamas and I constantly have to balance them.

hey ITB76 - STX tires//

You say good tread wear from you Kumho's.
I have only been on mine for 1,000 miles. Very good on ice today.
My Michelins were dandy, but went with the STX becase of looks (sipe design) and price.
So my question is regarding tread wear, how many miles do you have on them ?
Mine were put on by Belle tire, I asked how they were rated./guaranteed..they called race track and said they have no mileage warrenty.

I felt snookered. - - - but still like them.

Steve, I've got 11,000 miles on them so far. I got them from Tire Rack. Only problem was my wife picked the car up at the local shop who installed them, she said the car didn't feel right, like driving on a greasy racetrack. When I ckecked the pressures all four tires were over 50 psi!! The guys never checked the pressures after they mounted them! They're just fine at 32 - 35.

They're not bad in snow for all seasons, but I put Blizzaks on it for the winter. It snows a lot in West Michigan and they're worth it. Actually they're called Winter Duelers, it's the truck version of the Blizzak.

Lenny- your telling me ?

Ironic.
Youre telling me about Western Michigan Winters.
I spent 20 years 12 miles North of Whitehall MI (Shelby)
I have a summer place at Silver Lake. Currently I am 50 miles south of you now near GR.
Back to the tires.. I noticed the last couple days the Kumho's make more road noise than the michelins. Mine were ordered from Race Track by Belle Tire and installed by Belle tire.
My experiences are the opposite of yours. I switched lanes leaving the tire place and thought the tires were vague/slushy.. I found they had 32 PSI / they looked low to me.. I ran them up to 50 PSI. I recall thats a pound or two under the Max written on the tire. Thats what I am running them with.

Well, its 21 degrees...now we just wait 6 months for Summer..

Merry Christmas Lenny

Looks like 4 wheel drive will be the ticket when I drive up to Shelby Saturday.
The forcast is a whole bunch of snow. My Mom reminded me about 20 years ago the XWay was closed at Chridtmas, I took the back roads..My Horizon was the best thing I ever owned to go thru snow until My ML320.

When you leaving to find work ? and where you going ?

Personally I only like our state about 6-7 months a year. April thru November.

I quit my job in Rothbury to go to work in Milwaukee. Right now it's colder but much less snow. I'd rather take the snow. I'll move if the house ever sells, otherwise I'm back every weekend. I've got four snow tires on both the GTI and the ML. 4WD helps you go in the snow, but snow tires make it stop & turn too. Have fun up in Shelby!
