Brake Light Sensor

I have a 01 ML 55 . If the break pad sensor light comes on, is it for the front or rear break pads. ( Order my manual, take 3-6 weeks)

I would say the front, when my pads on the rear started to grind there was no light for the rear on my ML430 a couple years ago. ;)

I just did a visual check and it appeared as their was a fair amount of pad on the fronts. The rear was looking thin. Anyone, Gilly??

Tks

Which pads are worn?

OK, here's the deal: MB changed where they put sensors on almost every year and it differed between the models. So, simply look for the sensor wire that is quite obvious as it comes out of the caliper and connects into another plug. That will tell you if there are sensors on that wheel. It's safe to say that there is always one on the front. Either way, if you pull a wheel off to look for the sensor wire, you can also check the pads closely. You haven't mentioned how many miles are on you pads, but I've gone thru 2 sets on front before the rear were replaced.
PS. There is plenty of discussion here on replacement pads. The mintex reduce the dust, but I couldn't get a good reproduction of OEM for the rear. Whichever pads you pick, you need to replace the rotors too (usually).

Carson, you have an owners manual in adobe format? I don't see how that post fits into this thread at all.
You can't automatically say if it's the front or rear pads because the light comes on. You need to inspect the pads. Usually the fronts wear out at twice the rate of the rears, but if the fronts have already been replaced, I suppose the rears could have been ovrlooked and now the indicator is coming on for a rear sensor.
The ML55 I believe has a sensor at each wheel.

gilly

gilly, in his original post he mentioned a manual, i assumed it was an owners manual. i was offering it to him if he wanted it, since i cannot email it all i wanted was what it would cost me to ship it. now do you see how this applies? if he doesn't want it he can tell me.

Yep, I see that now, thanks.

Gentelman thanks for the feedback. Looks like i need new rear break pads! All 4 wheels do have sensors, and the only way to know for sure is to remove a wheel!

Carson - Thanks for the offer, appreciated.
Just ordered a new manual for MB $10. cheapest item i ever purchased so far, LOL.

Break light goes on and offf

When I start my 99 ML320 and slowly move out of my garage, I see the break light is flashing for 1-3 seconds and then it goes off. When I drive, I do not see the light at all, so it only hapens when I start the truck.

I checked the break fluid and it's between min and max. I also visually checked the frond and rear pads, they look ok (7-9mm left).

Any ideas?

flashing?

The only time I se the lights flashing is when the truck is locked with the remote key.

when he says he see's the brake light flashing, he is reffering to the brake pad wear indicator in the insrument cluster, not the external brake lights.

Ray is exactly right - I am talking about the control panel break light.

Is it the red "BRAKE" light? Or the yellow "((0))" light? People often gets these confused.
